|
|
I play Kartrider with my Korean friends at the PC Bangs sometimes, but I always have to use the password and ID of one of their other friends in order to log into the gaming system.
We tried together to create an account for me....even under 외국인 가입, but didn't have much luck. Is it possible to make an account as a foreigner? I'm not necessarily asking for a walk-me-through-it tutorial, just want to know if it's possible. If you have an account, were there any particular problems in creating it?
I entered my foreign registration number and it just rejected it. Plus the staff guy was a total jerk so no help there. ( |

As most people know there are often issues for foreigners trying to joing Korean websites.
Of the four major Korean game sites, pmang and hangame are both foreigner friendly. Signing up is no problem. The other two, netmarble and nexon, allow foreigner signups in theory... but it doesn't always work. They both recently introduced the i-pin system for foreigner signups, which is a huge step in the right direction, but it still doesn't work for many people. The error that most people get basically says "your name is too long for our system". And since you must enter your full name in order to verify your identity, there's no way around it. I don't know exactly what the character limit is, but most English names are far too long. I find it extremely silly that they can't find a way to fix this, but I guess it's not a huge priority for them. Cartrider is a nexon game, which is why you've been unable to sign up.
You can still join, but it will be a hassle. You'll have to call up the company (if you can't speak Korean, have one of your friends do it). The first person you talk to probably won't have any idea of what to do. They'll transfer you back and forth to different people. You'll get angry, and you might have to call back multiple times. Once they finally figure it out you'll have to FAX or mail in a copy of your ID card, and the whole process might take several days. However, I recommend that you do it. Maybe these fools will finally fix their websites if they get enough complaints. |

I run an infrequent blog on video games for foreigners. Check my WWW at the bottom of the message. There are several portals we can actually sign up. Not just limited to those 4. There are also several smaller ones we can sign-up for as well.
I've contacted Netmarble about the short name problem. Their character limit is 14. It is pretty useless unless you're just a gyopo born abroad who has a romanized name on his arc. They are generally the only people whose names are short enough. If your name was John Frank Smith it'd be about your only chance to make it under the limit.
Nexon makes it impossible to contact their customer service without being logged in. Netmarble did say they plan to fix the long name problem, but they haven't said when. That was about a month and a half ago that I last heard from them.
I should poke them again. |
