No, I've got a lot of time to kill. Now watch your spelling! |
Well, you got me there with the spelling. I have a lot of time to kill too. I think others do too if they're posting on this site. A lot of pent up aggravation here. Maybe we all need a Wii. |

Summertime blues in Korea. Summer camps and rainy days. There really isn't a lot to do in Korea that I haven't done time and time again. |

Korean women definitely enjoy inflicting physical pain. The ones I've let close enough have bitten, pinched, scratched, bent appendages ( ) in ways they weren't designed to bend, pulled body hair, sado masochist massages, stood on, and that was just the co-teachers! |

| The fear of paying blood money stops a lot of trouble also the discipline learned in the military and martial arts schools stops Koreans from going all out. worst fight I saw. A man who at first we thought was assaulting a woman was actually being beaten by his wife and motherinlaw. A friend and I dashed in to be the shining knights rescuing the maiden when we both realized that the poor guy had already been pretty badly mauled and was trying to defend himself from two raging women. Korea is a pretty peaceful place and the stupid drunken macho scuffles that occur in the West dont happen as often. fighting except in a ring , is stupid. Very very stupid. |

To be On-Topic as for Koreans and violence I haven't seen any real fights here. Back home there were plenty of stupid Kyopo fights , some involving weapons, and all were just dumb- they were a BIG reason why I stayed away form most Kyopo college parties/club events (what's up with all this yellow on yellow crime??? Can't we all just get along?). The one fight I saw between Korean Koreans was for a good reason- a drunk dude had just been rubbing himself all over this girl while she said no and this 형 who was there just blasted the guy in the face and told him to get down on his knees and start begging apologies.
To my Korean Klingon friends I have this to say- 카브라!!! Today IS a good day to die.
To djsmnc and NYC_Girl 므리얍!!! (jk of course)
Man I am a total dork for posting Klingon in Hangul. Fail.
As for women and men and their roles let's remember the 139th Rule of Acquisition- "Wives serve. Brothers Inherit." I kid I kid.
Sorry to go completely off-topic but...
To: NYC_Gal, what's your fav DS9 episodes? Mind posting it on this thread?

Korean women love to be beat up, however.
In bed, I mean. |

I have. Lots of punches thrown, and falling down drunk. Right across from the local cop shop, where the police on duty stepped outside to watch the debacle. When the fight was over, they went back inside and let the guys bleed all over the sidewalk where they fell down. Best fight I've seen in 14 years in Korea (not involving a citizen slapping the crap out of a cop). |

The best fight I've seen in Korea was in a small pub, between the 2 co-owners of the establishment . One was behind the bar pouring the drinks and one was in front of the bar serving, and all of a sudden they just started fiercly swinging at eachother! The bartender ended up on top of the bar for a few moments like a scene in one of the old western movies where a guy gets pulled across the length of the bar, knocking over every bottle and drink! Then they both ended up on their feet and continued their scrap in the main area of the pub, knocking over or smashing probably 3/4 of the tables, chairs, and drinks! They somehow continued fighting right out the door and onto the street. Since they were the owners of the bar, there was really nobody to intervene. My friends and I were thankfully standing next to a table and holding our drinks rather than sitting down, and all we had to do was move to the side a bit when they smashed into our table!! None of our drinks spilled! When it was all over most of the patrons just stood their tables and chairs back up, while the only other woman who was working there started cleaning up the broken glass. Meanwhile the fighters were still going at it outside!! A couple of high-fives all around and we kept on drinking!! I remember my friends and I had a fun night that night, but witnessing that was definately the highlight!! |

Sorry to get back to the discussion so late - but I've just finisheee summer camp.
When I said 'dukn' it out', the two teachers were only doing the girlie fight thing that Korean men do, i.e., lots of shouting and pushing - and hoping someone will stand between them so they won't have to hit each other.
However, I have seen some real fighting in Pohang (tough town). Broken noses, blood everywhere stuff. Real mens' fightn'.
I come from a country where there's not much chance of a cop coming if you need one, so people tend to use frontier justice. Any sign of rudeness, and baam, you get a lesson in manners. Personally, I don't like violence (saw too much of it in my biker days), and I think people who fight are morons. |

I once saw a younger man punching and ajoshi in the face through a car window. He finished, got in the driver's side and drove off as though nothing happened.
Saw an older guy kicking a woman who was laying down outside his shop.
Routinely watched my neighbor, Mr. Han, get beat by his wife after he drank too much.
Saw a guy bleed all over Nowon station after punching out a window.
I was walking to work one morning and came across a sizable brawl involving civilians and cops. Fists and feet flying like mad at 5:45 in the morning after what was clearly a long night of boozing.
I never found that Koreans were less likely to throw hands than any other group of people I have ever come across, but I never, ever walked in to a bar and felt the need to immediately nut up the way I might have to at home. The only time I had anything close to physical happen was at my local hof when a very drunk ajoshi came up to me and started yelling. I happened to be quite well liked by the owners and other regular customers. (Eat some bondegi when it's offered. That will pull quite a bit of weight for you in the long run.) The unofficial bouncer came over and let the drunk know I was not to be messed with. He apologized and left without further incident. |

Witnessed some fight one night in Sinchon (my friends and I stood in awe of what was going on)
A adjumma (prozzie/drunk/who knows) was in a police station and she was clearly upset. Smacking, scratching at a cop when she was surrounded by em. The cop had had enough and he lay his pimp hand down, she fell and another cop closed the door- then lowered the shades
I always seem to miss the most interesting parts of a fight. One night I walked home after leaving my friends at the bar, I saw an ambulance helping an adjosshi who had a bottle broken across the back of his head. His cut was pretty bad
Another night my buddy and I were up early waiting to take a trip, this was in Ilsan right across from Woori Bank. Three drunks were going home, one of them upset, and he was trying to kick them in the ass without falling or puking. He failed twice Everytime his friends tried to help him, he'd kick at them. Then they'd carry him and puke. And start kicking them again |

| I saw a guy smash a beer bottle over his own head, knocking himself out cold on the first night I arrived in Korea back in '04. Still leaves a lasting impression. |

Hell, I just saw a guy get the crap kicked out of him in Suyu on Saturday night. Although, that doesn't seem to be too out of the ordinary with all of the gang/K mafia action there.
Anyway, there was a big argument between two guys about a girl who was sleeping around (oops). The smaller guy slaps the other guy in the face and immediately turns around . As soon as his back is turned the other guy sucker punches him in the back of the head and then proceeds to try and curbie him while the girl is pulling on his shirt.
I was astounded that the guy turned his back right after slapping a much bigger, drunk dude. Just seems like a bad idea. |

Really? I go to Suyu sometimes, but I never noticed any of that. Of course, I usually stop there during the day. Maybe I need that stuff pointed out. I always think Koreans just look like Koreans. |
