New iphone Jailbreak released, works on all firmwares including 4.01.
Also, since everyone here has a 3gs, you can also unlock it using ultrasn0w from cydia.

Just point your phones browser to jailbreakme.com

this jailbreak is easy as it can be done through your phone itself, no computer needed. This is the new comex "spirit" jailbreak

i should also mention that a lot of the cydia apps aren't 4.0 compatible yet, so don't be disappointed if some cydia app you install doesn't work, it probably will later. Theres some compatibility lists out there

It worked for me on the third try. I believe that their servers are flooded right now with everyone trying to jailbreak at once.

So far it's working OK on my Ipod Touch 2g.

I've got a 2G as well. I've tried it about 20 times and nada. I've gone ahead and synced like they suggested, cleared the cache/history/cookies and reboted
no love so far.

Ah, it's because I have the pre-release version of 4.0. Itunes sees it as the latest, but it isn't. I have to put the official 4.0 on there and then it'll jailbreak it.

ugh..
this is annoying.
If I jailbreak it.. I can't run my KEB application. It no longer trusts the platform.
So just a heads up if you are using your Korean banks iPhone app you might not be able to use it if you jailbreak it.

Yeah a few months now. They're great. You can do everything from the KEB app, transfers, pay bills, do wire transfers back home, even set up rate transfers so when it hits a certain rate it'll transfer, etc.

I came across this problem a few months ago and found other apps where people had the same issue, but no mention of how to get around it. It's a real kick in the nuts as I need to use the banking app regularly.

Yup. I've gone back to official ios4 for now.. it is far too handy to do without it.

If there was some kind of like "non-jailbreak" mode we could boot into or something that would be great.

I knew that some banking programs check to see if the iphone is jailbroken, but i never use banking on my phone so it's never been a problem.

Anyways theres only two ways i know of that an app could determine that a phone is jailbroken:
1) It checks to see whether cydia or some other app only jailbroken phones would have is installed.

or

2)The app includes unsigned executable code, and if that unsigned code is able to run and return a value, that value would signal to the app that the iphone was jailbroken.

If the 1st one is the case, than an easy solution would be to install whatever you want from cydia, and then ftp or ssh into your iphone and move cydia to another directory until you want to use it again. I haven't tested this out, so i can't say with certainty that it would work, but it should. I'll test it out sometime when i'm not so tired.

If its checking by method number two, then it might be possible to edit the banking app and remove the unsigned code, but that would probably be quite difficult. My guess tho is that they are using method #1 since it's the easiest.

Edit: It's not checking if cydia is present, just tested that out. It could be checking for another file i'm not sure.

Anyday now I'm waiting for Apple to update the iPhones "over the air" and brick all the ones that are jailbroken.

Kinda like when Microsoft brings down the Ban hammer on Xbox Live. Or when Blizzard does the same with WoW accounts.

They wait until they get as many people as possible and then drop the hammer at one time.

A lot of people would be pissed, but then again, Apple did make it blatantly clear they don't want people to jailbreak.
