|
|
Was supposed to meet a driver. That was 4 hours ago and I can't get in touch with anyone where I will be working. Should I just ride down to the city where I'll be teaching. I don't even know the exact address. If anyone can give me directions to pyeongchon-my google is not working. What in the hell! Has this happened to anyone else before? If the nightmare happens and I came to Korea only to be brushed aside, what are my legal options? I'd appreciate any help. |

First of all, settle down. I hope for your sake you have some money.
Now, what info do you have? Scholl's address or phone number in your e-mail? Check for it. If you find the number, call it.
If they have not come within a reasonable amount of time, just take a bus into anywhere and get yourself a cheap motel.
Pyeongchon station is accessible from the subway line. It'll take about 2 hours from the airport. Ask a Korean to help you. |

Yeah I was just hoping for a smoother transition is all. And the lack of communication worries me because my funds are quite limited. Thanks for the info Gaber.

It could be that they saw you at the airport and decided you were too fat and/or ugly to work at their school and they decided to just abandon you. |
I thought that was an urban legend. Any truth to it? |

Many schools/hagwons are on vacation right now, so that's not so surprising if you cannot reach anyone. Also, many hagwons are not open until after lunch time.
Maybe there was lack of communication somewhere and they don't even know you are in Korea now. When I got here my second time, my recruiter told me someone would be waiting for me, but there wasn't anyone. It was like 6 AM, so I just waited until 9 and called at the hagwon where I was supposed to go teach. It turns out someone had forgotten to let them know about my coming in that day. The manager of that branch came personally to pick me up and that was it. I got lucky; I hope so will you. |

I remember my time at a PS in Ansan.... I hit the ground at the airport, and got the shaft, too.... but no marching band for me either...
I call the school and get the coteacher, who screams she thinks I'm coming tomorrow and will come to the airport for me. Apparantly the recruiter gave the wrong date.
I was fed up with the problems I had dealing with that recruiter, and I thought my best way to even the score was to throw my plane ticket away. the recruiter had paid for the ticket themselves, and I was supposed to save it to get the PS money back to 'em. Sucked to be the recruiter that day.... |

Unfortunately not. I met a coupple of South African guys who were abandoned at Gimhae (busan) airport.
They luckily had the schools address and showed up at the school. They said the director eventually fessed up that he showed up at the airport only to see them and decide they were too dark skinned and turned around walked back out leaving them there.
They ended up getting jobs else where. This was before all the visa regualtions came in with interviews or they would have been royally screwed being their first time in Korea. |

I live in Pyeongchon! What is the name of the school?
If you still need help getting to your school, go outside of the airport building, where there are many long distance coaches. You want the one that says 'Anyang - Beomgye". It should cost about W12,000. Get off at the first stop (Beomgye) and grab a taxi, you're 2 mins from anywhere in Pyeongchon.
Feel free to contact me if I can be of any further help. |

OP found his way, but just for the record, the airport bus stops at Anyang now so had he followed this advice it might've worsened the problem... |
