|
|
Without going into too many details, I got fired from my job last week. My workplace basically disliked me from the start, I guess I just didn't fit into the culture...anyhow, was told a student disliked me, told her parent, parent called the Hagwon asking for my job, and she got it. My branch director is giving me until the end of the term (end of August) to leave.
Naturally, I'm freaking out and have already been through the whole "this can't be happening to me," but in some ways I am glad to be leaving this branch, particularly my head instructor.
My major cause for concern is that I am being told by every recruiter that contacts me that I cannot work for them as I have not been employed in Korea for 6 months, my E2 visa is not transferable. As in, signing a new contract with a new company means new E2 visa, which means leaving the country to get said visa. I have heard a couple of stories from friends that they were able to get around this with some recruiters. So far I'm just getting replies of rejection.. Recruiters are also telling me sealed transcripts are needed though I thought those were no longer needed? Also, if my degree with apostille is over 6 months old, I was told that's void too. These things I prepared in February so they would be now.
I'm not really sure what to do at this point... I'm stressing out and am considering the best option is taking what last paycheck I receive and catching a flight home. I'd like to stay in Korea but there's no way I can afford catching a flight to a foreign country for a visa then coming back...
Anyone with experience would be of major help. Is a visa run really the only option, and how do those usually go? |

Are you American? Point the recruiter in the direction of Guam. |

If you're American you can get a new E-2 in Guam. It's the best option you have without going home, as Japan visa runs are only available after 6 or 9 months teaching in Korea. This is what I did and my school had zero problem doing it for an ASAP position. It's better than paying for a ticket back to the States out of your own pocket. |

You've got 30 days to get your documents in order and find a new job.
Get on it. You have the option of doing a visa run to Guam (it is the US) instead of going back home to the lower 48 (but Japan should be equally valid since you have had a prior E2).

When I was applying to jobs with Ask Now, they told me I couldn't do a Japan run without 9 months previous teaching experience in Korea (i.e. 9 months on a previous E2). |
