I went this last weekend to Jongsan electronics market to check into two things - one is a Panasonic Lumix camera and I was also looking into a boombox w/ mp3 capability.
Is it my imagination or are the prices just horrible? Are the vendors typically pretty negotiable on prices? Everything seemed a good 30-40% higher than prices in the States?
The Panasonic camera is as low as $149 at Amazon so I'm thinking about doing having a relative unbox one from Amazon and send it over as a personal item. My worry is that the model is pretty new and might be difficult to get under the radar at customs.
Gmarket is ok but the prices are similarly a bit high. Any alternative places to shop for cameras or boomboxes with better prices? I imagine Jongsan is a tourist trap for people a bit confused by the Won!

Just curious then - have you found you can get 20-30% off in your experience of buying there?
Also, I noticed on one specific camera model I saw repeatedly I didn't recognize the model number for the brand name - is Jongsan, known for knockoffs of major camera brands you should worry about getting stuck with?
Thanks for your input by the way. |

in one of the main halls, on the floor you would walk out to dunkin donuts, there's a really awesome guy. no pressure, lets you try all the lenses and everything, very knowledgeable dude. he's got a bunch of DSLRS but i saw some sweet other stuff. highly recommended. sorry i can't be more specific..he's kinda the first row as you head out.. |

It's the big, multi-story electronics market at Jongsan station. Numerous department stores and an IMax type movie theatre are adjoined to it.
Maybe I'm making a mistake in the romanization of the spelling but I think it's correct. Honestly, I hate the place as I'm not into giant electronics environments but I'm sure it's a great find for a lot people looking for computer stuff or cameras and so on...... |
