So, I googled my screen name the other day (yeah desk warming is awesome), and stumbled across a random Korean site with my SN.
http://asiaworld.tistory.com/161 (Warning, has some awful music playing when you load it)
I translated it using Chrome's translation lab, basically it's just about Korea having fast internet or not. I posted on a Dave's thread that my internet was quite slow. Not really a big deal.
But, got me thinking- after just seeing a post that could be offensive to Koreans on another thread- people actually monitor this site and go through the trouble of translating it for other Koreans.
Just something to think about. |

Sorry to burst your bubble, but everyone knows this.
I'm not censoring myself for some unseen person whom I will never meet or care about. |

No bubbles, just a thought.
No reason to act like a degenerate online just because people don't know who you are (not a shot at you btw). |

I'm not out to insult nor criticize the Koreans, but I hope they can learn from our complaints surrounding a lack of communication, closed minded co-teachers, last minute demands leading to botched substandard work, breach of contracts, and various other disappointments due largely to dodging communication and truths. Due to many closed minded people who personally disagree with the situation, it's difficult to impossible to get to know many Koreans and gain their respect and honesty. Also many feel they are open to English EDU and to personally know foreigners, but feel very consciously anxious about how other Koreans will judge them for something like being seen talking to you in English.
While it's plausible Korea is embracing Western culture and knowledge by taking on foreign teachers, there needs to be an initiative on how to acquire the mindset to work with an open mind and inform everyone that lacking an open mind to not enter the English classroom. Last thing students need is Korean and foreign teaching partners to have personality conflicts and failing the students to their right to an environment conducive to learning. I'm finding it extremely difficult to get to know and get along with some co-teachers while others are pleasant personalities a charm to work with. Starting a new relationship such as in temporary camp situations and beginning of a job is hard. Personality conflicts can happen anywhere, but the stark cultural difference between the West and Korea with a very different belief systems can make it tricky at best until you get to know each other and have some talks.

Has nothing to do with it, I'm just not a fan of censoring myself and kissing someone else's ass "just in case" |

One day, they are going to wander into the current events forum and see bacasper say stuff like how fantasizing about the rape of 11 year olds is "no big deal" or this little gem from today:

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Why would anyone sneak around and try to catch English teachers being degenerates, drug users, womanizers, or whatever, when they can come here to Dave's ESL cafe and just wait for someone to admit it? |

I have trouble with this: It's not illegal to sleep around, and so long as one's sex life is confined to consenting adults and not interfering with work, it's no one else's business. Netizens who have a problem with foreigners "stealing their women" need to grow up. |

Workplace personality conflicts are a big factor anywhere in the world... |

Okay, good. You go tell them that, and let us know how that turns out. |
