|
|
So I have a LG mini laptop, i noticed recently that the fan is always running. I don't know if it has always been like this and finally I noticed or if it is a new thing. The computer works fine, no problems, just the constant running of the fan worries me a little. Is this normal? Should I do something to fix it? Please dumb down your response. |

Given the air temp in the summer time, it's quite natural that it's on nearly all the time. Most operating systems activate the fan at a certain temp. |

Summer = hotter than before
Fan = makes computer cool down
Kidding aside, if it's not just responding to hotter ambient temps it could be full of dust. Is it old? Does it have any vents you could blow a can of air into? |

Get a can of compressed air and clean out all the vents. You can also download a program called "Everest" from download(.)com. Using that program you can set temperature levels and what percentage of fan speed you want depending on the temp of the CPU, video card etc. I use the program and it works great.
If you don't want to mess with setting temps and fan speeds there is another program called "HWMonitor" (also from download(.)com). That program will simply tell you the temperature of your CPU, hard drive, and video card; If you notice that your CPU is running hot (50c plus in my opinion) you can also buy a laptop cooling pad. Hopefully this will lower the temp of your computer and the fan speed will slow down. |

Do not do this.
With a laptop you are more than likely going to blow the dust clog further back into your machine if you do not know what you are doing.
To properly clean it, remove the back plate, should be 4-6 screws, and then use the canned air to blow towards the vents from the inside.
Never spray canned air into a laptop vent with the cover on. |

to add to the mix:
vacuuming OUT of the vents is better than blowing through them to support the last posters comment. If it is 1+ year old you might find a layer of dust as thick as felt covering the heatsink, not pretty!
another little piece of free software to run would be CCleaner and Adaware, both will find and remove spyware/old junk from your machine, freeing up space and allowing it more room to breath. |

If you blow compressed air into the intake portion of the fan it is OK. If you do this very often (at least once a week for me) the dust gets expelled from the outtake and it never has a chance to built up to the, "felt mat" level.
Yes, I would not recommend blowing air into the vent that expels the air. |
