Pull a knife on a cop, suffer the consequences.

I suppose the police were under an obligation to be fully apprised of her physical condition prior to making their call?

same thing, different day.

The only real difference is the police victims are actually suing. I wish everyone else would do the same instead of making complaints that never amount to anything.

Ok, so you are a cop and you walk into the bedroom. This old lady is hooked up to oxygen, laying in bed but suddenly pulls out a knife. Granted we don't know all the facts but I imagine it went down possibly two ways.

The cops are standing far back enough that when she pulls out the knife they were in no immediate danger. Ok, so she has a knife but is she going to spring out of bed, leap on these officers and knife them all to death? I doubt it.

Situation two. Perhaps they approached her and she got the jump on them, pulling out a knife while they were close enough to her to be cut or stabbed but this didn't happen did it. Either way they could have simply stepped back and appraised the situation in order to handle it a different way.

What the hell is happening in today's society. It's like we ourselves, through our own attitudes are slowly accepting police ethics that seem more akin to what we might imagine in a police state.

What happened to the notion that police are there to protect and serve us, to help us when we need it most. Not to barge in someone's house and tase us the moment we don't bend over, spread our ass cheeks and comply with every single demand they utter.

They knew the situation going in. A grandson called 911 saying that his grandmother was distressed and had taken a lot of pills. Obviously they could determine that she may be a little bit out of it rather than some cold hearted killer.

Another thing... Since when have tasers become "weapons of compliance?" I thought they were considered non-lethal methods of self defence. If your police need to defend themselves with violence from a bed ridden granny that makes you an even bigger *beep* for needing to defend them. I mean seriously, come on now.

I'm not saying that I agree with what the cops did (I don't), just that if you pull a knife on them (even if you're elderly) you should be thankful these days that a tazing is all you get.

Someone needs to taze those cops. I would gladly do it.

They are tazed as part of their training. Maybe that deadens them to the effects on others, I dunno.

Agreed.

What is wrong in today's society whre people think that they can pull a knife on a cop and not be tazed?

She was 86. I'm surprised that she didn't have a heart attack when they did that to her.

I got a nasty shock once when I was taking apart a kitchen ceiling in an old house (a friend had turned on the breaker switch unbeknownst to me). After flying across the room and landing in the corner, I actually felt great for about a half hour.

Maybe the tazing snapped granny out of her depression.

Maybe she was a danger to her self? The grandson said she was suicidal, maybe she was going to cut herself, the news report isn't too specific.

Sorry, gonna have to side with the cops on this one.

This story is a total abuse of the media to hype people up.

The youtube video said she was tased 'repeatedly'. When does twice mean repeatedly? Also, it explained that the first shot didn't connect, so a 2nd shot was ordered.

I agree with Caniff and Captain Korea. Once you pull a weapon on the cops, you have lost your rights.

This.

You gotta see the other thread where people are actually cheerleading the cops because a guy is getting 30-to-life for an imaginary, thought crime! If so many people cannot see the problem with that, we are screwed. Full-fledged fascism is inevitable.

It wasn't a thought crime. He was going to rape a child.
