Was a great read. I heard that they will make a movie out of it.
As for 'geeking out', I'm happy that I just finished my first semi-pro job. And got a line on a possible Image gig. |

Congrats on that and best of luck with the Image job.
As for Frank Miller. . . I once had a 20-30 minute chat with him a year or two after Robocop 2 came out. I remember thinking that he looked like he was dying of AIDS because he was very sickly, emaciated, and his teeth were all yellow from smoking. I remember two rants he wnt on. First, he complained about how his vision for Robocop 2 was completely changed and he distanced himself from the movie claiming he had no control over what happened after he turned in his script. Second, I asked him if he would ever do a Punisher comic and he got sort of emotional over it. He said the Punisher was a villian and a bad role model because he kills people, so he would refuse to ever it. Also, he refused to draw me a sketch saying that he does not draw any more. I do have a sketch of Rogue from Jim Lee and of P-chan from Rumiko Takahashi, but the nicest artist I met had to be Sam Keith of the Maxx fame. |

| R Crumb, though some of his work is REALLY twisted. Warped even by the standards of one of the most nonsensical and annoying people on this site (djsmnc) |

Favorites:
Transmetropolitan (Supererogatory political story. Yes, I'm using a thesaurus. A great read.)
Soulwind - Scott Morse (sorely underrated, beautiful from cover to cover)
Berserk! (Gorgeously gratuitous sex, violence and monsters with an intense revenge story underpinning it all. A guilty pleasure really. A bit slow to start and loses steam around volume 15 or so. One of Japan's longest running mangas. I wish the guy would just end it already, he lost it years ago. I've endured years of mediocrity for closure!)
Uzumaki, (and to a lesser extent) Gyo - Junji Ito (demented Japanese horror, super-weird/psychological)
someone already mentioned - The Goon - Pure fun, humanistic zombie mafia oater set in a bizarre, occasionally Lovecraftian city. |

Berlin is a great series, it takes place between the 2 world wars. By Jason Lutes.
Louis Riel by Chester Brown is a great book.
If your talking Alan Moore then you have to read From Hell. It the greatest comic written in my opinion.
I echo the recomendations for Y: the Last Man and The Walking Dead (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1520211/ ) are both great series. |

DA has something other than furry porn and slash fan art? I'm in shock!
I caught up on most of Invincible now and I have to say it's freakin' amazing. I avoided superhero stuff for a long time (not knowing where to start, not sure if I could relate) but this I like. I especially loved, LOVED, LOVED the back story with Rex Splosion and Atom Eve. I am also really into Monster Girl but hope this doesn't lead into loli land.
I think I'd like to find a superhero comic with a smart, funny and sexy female lead. You know, one that doesn't require super strength to hold up her own boobs. Anything in that area? |

Wow, lots of my favorites so far in this thread.
Kinda hard to add anything to it.
Some indie stuff I like:
Jimmy Corrigan by Chris Ware
Red Rocket 7 by Mike Allred (nice X-force shout out!)
and Guy Delisle's autobiography/travel books are amazing, I had his Pyongyang and Burma books, but lost em somewhere.
Here are some new comics that are mind-blowing:
Elephantmen
Young Liars
Fear Agent
I also really like the new Mark Waid books, Irredeemable and Incorruptable
As for your question of a smart/funny/sexy superhero book... There are the early Birds of Prey books, the Current Black Widow isn't too bad. Oh the mid 2000's Catwoman series was pretty good too. Oh man, and Power Girl - although she does kind of need "super-support"
But hands down the best in that genre would be the Greg Rucka/ JH Williams III Batwoman found in Detective Comics |
