I've tried to use the search function but it doesn't seem to be working. I'd like to buy a used car but I'm not sure where to look. I have tried a few expat online sites and craigslist... Can anyone give me any advice? Thanks! |

The link listed above for SKEncar is a good place to go.
I bought a car from them a couple of years ago and it was a very reliable car and cheap. They spoke English and even took care of the registration and insurance for me.
Just browse the cars online that are in your price range. They have detailed pictures of each car and inspection reports that are surprisingly accurate. Then find out what location the car is at and go there to take it for a test drive. |

Thanks ...I enquired about a few of the cars listed. Hopefully I'll be on the road by the end of the week! |

Encar gave me the bait and switch. I went to look at one for 1.5 mil. and they said it was sold (not over the phone mind you, but when I got there). Then they shuffled me over to another one I might like for 2.2 mil. Try these sites:
www.jamesgarage.net
www.usfkclassifieds.net
Steve Shin runs the sites and he's a gyopo. Very nice guy. Best of luck. |

I went to buy a car last March and had a hell of time even with my wife and in-laws. Stay away from any used car dealer, they will rip you off until you are blind.
Steve is a nice guy, but he only has a limited number of cars on his lot and they are generally for US Military. He sent me to his uncle and I was very unimpressed with him. The shop Steve run is excellent, but as for his uncle, stay away from him.
My advice is watch the ads on Dave's and Craigslist. I ended up getting a good deal on a privately sold used car. |

If you're in Seoul the famous used car area is in Yeomchang-dong. Any taxi driver will know where it is, huge parking garages full of dealers. |

Seriously, stay away from the used car dealers. They are pond scum. |

Great site, better than the previous ones. Why so many Audi's for sale? Does Audi have issues? |

While I did not notice an unusual number of Audis for sale, yes, they do have reliability problems. Much like BMW, Audi is better for leases than to own for a long time. |

I recently bought a nice used car here from a car lot. Used car dealers have bad reputations the world over, but it helps if you know specifically what you are looking for-- make, year, price, mileage, etc.
Skencar is a very useful site, especially if you can navigate the Korean site. A quick tutorial:
From the homepage, click the top left option (국산차)
This will take you to a basic search engine.
Click the white 상세조건 선택 button (next to orange 검색)
and this takes you to the advanced search.
Almost all the options are narrowed down using drop boxes at this point.
Very easy to navigate with basic Korean skills (or a dictionary / Korean friend helping works as well). Should be pretty easy to figure out on your own at this point. Make sure to include 지약 --- in your search to include your city. Click on the orange 검색 when you are ready to search. Once you find the listings, there will be contact info and where the car is located. I test drove quite a few before finding the one I bought.
Again, it helps if you know what you are looking for, but it can also give you an idea of the general price ranges for different vehicles. It's not a good idea to just go to a used lot without a general idea of the model and price range you want. When you use the English site, there is a similar function but it's really geared toward SKencar's (essentially just a chain of nicer used car lots) listings. The advanced search of "other dealers' inventory" is very limited and can't be narrowed down to city. Hope this is helpful for anyone looking to buy a used car here. |

Passo directs you to the same dealers that encar has. If you want Korean sites also try:
