Seriously, female genital mutilation seems worse, more barbaric, than male circumcision. However, the truth is that both procedures should only be performed when requested by the individual. They should not be performed on a child too young to consent.

Perhaps like statutory rape, statutory mutilation should be a crime.

Age of consent seems to be relevant to several topics recently.

Well, I retroactively consent to my circumcision and will perform it on my son with the good faith that he will appreciate it too.

In the hopes that you will not derive some perverse gratification from the sexual assault with a knife upon the genitalia of your own son, I'd just like to ask you, are you a sadist?

No way! I believe the hygeine propaganda.

FROM THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS

Policy StatementRitual Genital Cutting of Female Minors

COMMITTEE ON BIOETHICS

The traditional custom of ritual cutting and alteration of the genitalia of female infants, children, and adolescents, referred to as female genital mutilation or female genital cutting (FGC), persists primarily in Africa and among certain communities in the Middle East and Asia. Immigrants in the United States from areas in which FGC is common may have daughters who have undergone a ritual genital procedure or may request that such a procedure be performed by a physician. The American Academy of Pediatrics believes that pediatricians and pediatric surgical specialists should be aware that this practice has life-threatening health risks for children and women. The American Academy of Pediatrics opposes all types of female genital cutting that pose risks of physical or psychological harm, counsels its members not to perform such procedures, recommends that its members actively seek to dissuade families from carrying out harmful forms of FGC, and urges its members to provide patients and their parents with compassionate education about the harms of FGC while remaining sensitive to the cultural and religious reasons that motivate parents to seek this procedure for their daughters.

Is that the same American Academy of Pediatrics that also found circumcised men have less sexual dysfunction and a larger multitude of sexual practices?

No, it is the American Academy of Pediatrics that found:

Quote:
Like any other surgery, circumcision has risks. They include:

    * Excessive bleeding
    * Infection
    * Complications from anesthesia
    * Surgical mistakes, including loss of glans and loss of entire *beep*
    * Death

Many circumcised males suffer from:

    * Extensive scarring
    * Skin tags and skin bridges
    * Tearing and bleeding at the scar site
    * Curvature of the *beep*
    * Tight, painful erections
    * Difficulty ejaculating
    * Impotence
    * Feelings of having been violated
    * Feelings of having been mutilated

All circumcised males lose some or most of the sensitivity in their glans and all of the sensitivity in their foreskin.

Circumcision may have risks and complications not yet recognized or understood.

OH, I see what you mean. Rather than teach a boy to retract his foreskin and use a little soap and water, may as well just chop off that part of his body and avoid all that trouble.

Here's some more advice for you. So much time in our lives is spent on washing our hands as well. Think of how hygienic it would be not to have those pesky dirty hands to wash all the time and all the time you could save over a lifetime of doing it. So why not have your son's and your hands chopped off, too? It is quite common in Saudi Arabia.

But they didn't say this:

Quote:
A survey of adult males using self-report suggests more varied sexual practice and less sexual dysfunction in circumcised adult men. There are anecdotal reports that penile sensation and sexual satisfaction are decreased for circumcised males. Masters and Johnson noted no difference in exteroceptive and light tactile discrimination on the ventral or dorsal surfaces of the glans *beep* between circumcised and uncircumcised men.

That is a survey of self-reports which suggests what you quoted. I quoted hard data, and much more of it.

Is that a gamble you are willing to take with your son's life and/or health at stake?

Let's hope you never breed then.

Oh, I will. Cut too. I will snip snip snip my offspring.
