I will go to Japan soon to do a visa run, however I am rather confused. I have a notarized criminal record check. It would seem that I cannot get a notarized copy of a notarized criminal record check. Can't be double notarized. So I need to send my documents to my recruiter to be submitted so that I can receive my visa issuance number. But if I send that I don't have a criminal record check to submit to the embassy in Japan. My recruiter says I don't need it. He says I only need,

- Passport

- Photocopy of passport

- 1 passport size picture

- Employment contract & notice of appointment

- 4,500 yen

- Application form (in the consulate)

Is that right?

No degrees and no criminal record check?

Doesn't sound right.

2nd (or subsequent) E2 = he is correct for a public school position.

If you get a visa issuance number (rather than a notice of appointment) then you need:

Passport + copy
passport photo
confirmation number
application (from the counter)
fees (was 6000 yen but may have gone down due to the fluctuation in exchange rates)

.

I just did the Visa run to Fukuoka last week.

I needed passport, 1 passport photo, application form, contract and Notice of Appointment (as I am public school).

The Visa fee was 5,000 yen.
