I'm looking for 6-week temporary accommodation in Busan for the fall. I would prefer not to pay key money for something so short.

What are my options generally? Is it office tels? Villa (not sure what that is, is it a 'pension'?)? Straight-up hotel/motel?

Any thoughts on price ranges I might pay? Anywhere relatively near a subway in Busan will do.

Any thoughts on where I can start to look to find places?

Goshiwon! Generally range from 200k/month - 900k/month depending on the size and amenities. Expect a dorm room.

Are you already in Busan? Go for a walk around the area that you want to live, you'll find a few for sure (고시원 or 고시텔 on the sign), usually on the second floor or higher. Try around university areas too.

Arpina Youth Hostel but its not much cheaper than a hotel in Haeundae.

Cheap old motels in walking distance to Sasang subway from 300-500 a month. Walk down the alley betweek KFC and Lotteria and turn right just before you hit the fancy love motels. There are a group of long stay motels.
They are clean but a little depressing. No Internet or kitchen but PC Bangs and restaurants/bars and the lot are half a block away.

I've also stayed in motels long term before (a few weeks). The good thing is you can usually negotiate the price.

The problem is he doesn't want to stay in a goshiwon or motel.
He's hoping to stumble across an apartment.
Sometimes you can find a sublet. I stayed in a guys apartment in February and took care of his cats while he was in Philippines, but those deals usually are during winter and summer break.

You'll find something I'm sure.... Now i have to find a new home Oct. 1.

Thanks for the help everyone, I am pretty sure I will do the goshiwon. I have some people in Busan helping me to find one now. I think I found one with my own shower!
