I work at an after school job and last month my boss called me in and told me that the company would not be continuing with the school becuase of low enrollment.

It honestly wasn't a surprise, when I took over the program last December there were only 30 students and it's stayed pretty level at that number. After paying me and giving the public school it's cut, the company wasn't making alot of money. Even from the begining my boss was telling me the situation was tenous at best. I've never had any problems with my school at all. My boss would regularly watch my class and always told me I was doing a great job, the parents loved my open classes so I'm not blaming myself.

Well, he gave me a months notice and told me that our company didn't have any openings soon and he wanted to give me time to find another job.

I found another one and now he wants me to work 2 more weeks and thus negating the starting date for my new job.

He's holding the release letter over my head and I'm mildly chagrined at the whole thing because I've never had any nonsense from him at all.

I'm considering just canceling my visa myself and then coming back.

This new job is awesome and I certainly don't want to get screwed out of it because my boss is being a dick.

I honestly feel bad about it though, but it comes to a situation where I have to look out for me.

take a weekend in Japan (hand in your ARC on the way out - inform immigration that your job is finished and you want your visa canceled).

Return and process your new visa confirmation number.

Do your visa run and start your new job.

Don't hold your breath or lose your new job waiting for your LOR - they are not obligated to give you one.

Nah, he wont let me have any one cover for them. He seems rather adamant that I finish the contract.

He keeps telling me I'll be black listed etc.

Do I cancel my visa at the airport or do I go to the immigration office and do it?

Whats the best way to do so?

Actually, theres buisness trip for my new job the week of the 27th to Japan so could I just cancel my visa at immigration and still take my 14 days to leave the country? This way I'm not out any cash.

your business trip would work fine. Hand in your ARC as you pass through passport control and tell them you have quit. They will cancel your visa and you are free to start again.

This also gives you a 90 day (tourist) stamp on arrival (assuming you are not Canadian - they get a 6 month stamp).

The crap about a blacklist, etc. is exactly that - crap. He is blowing hot air out of his arse hoping to scare you into staying.

Hey just curious, what is the name of the school you work at now? Is it possibly Sanbon Elementary? near Geumjung station?
