I'm nearing the end of my contract in Mokpo and I'm very interested in working in Gwangju when I return from my short vacation after my contract concludes. That'd be a start time around the beginning of November.

I know a few Korean teachers who work in Gwangju, and they're currently helping me with the subject of this thread. And to further that, I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to come on here, see who works in Gwangju, and discuss a few things that could help.

I'm looking for work at a respectable school that will be hiring for a position at the beginning of November. Is your school hiring for a position around this time? How is your school? Would you, truthfully, recommend employment there?

I do understand that, seemingly, the bigger the school the higher the chances are that you don't have a clue if they're hiring. However, I know some people who are aware of such things, as I am with my institution - although we are much, much smaller than any public school, for example, for it'd be difficult NOT to have such information.

For the sake of saving some money, school directors often hope to fall upon their next teacher without the use of a recruiter. I know this for a fact, and as long as the teacher satisfies all of their requirements, they can negotiate their contract free of a recruiter.

I think I've said enough. Tell me some good schools in the city! I'll even investigate openings on my own, I'm just trying to organize a list to contact!

I'm in Gwangju. I have a couple of friends here who are looking for jobs starting november/december and they are having a hard time. Seems like the job market sucks everywhere. I'd say you really need contacts, or just to go and tramp the streets and look (which is obviously an option for you as you're so close).

Gwangju is great though, so good luck on your search and hopefully see you for a beer in winter

How many years of teaching experience do you have? For what age groups?

I work in Gwangju as well, and *may* know of a couple of positions opening up this winter. Waluigi is right though...the market is pretty meh right now.
