|

I've noticed a lot of posters here don't use the shift key. What's with that? Is that how low standards have sunk here? Or is that how young people type these days?
Expect to be called out if you write like an illiterate idiot. |

When to capitalize (aka use the shift key):
The first word of a sentence is always capitalized.
"I" is always capitalized.
Proper names, like Korea, Canada, Tom Cruise are capitalized.
Some acronyms, such as NATO, and AIDS are capitalized.
HTH, HAND. |

What If I Use The Caps Lock Button Instead, Will That Also Irritate You? Notice How I Used The Caps Lock For Each Capital Letter In This Post.
Also Note How Much More Annoying It Is To Actually Use Capitals. |

Why stupid? I really wanted to know if it bothered you or it was a joke. I hate it when I am riding the subway and the person next to me falls asleep and their head starts bobbing down toward my shoulder and then jerking back up again. |

Personally, I don't really care. This is a discussion forum. When I speak with friends, I speak more casually, drop various words and use less than formal, correct grammar. As long as the ideas are conveyed clearly, why worry so much about things like capitalization? Punctuation and using the correct homophone seem more important to me.
1. my job is driving me crazy!!
2. Why cant people chew with there mouths closed It really bothers me and makes me think that their not good people
For me, sentence one makes perfect sense and does not require reading it again, whereas the second set of sentences requires another read. |

I understand register. But it looks illiterate. I guess it's just another sign of the dumbing down here. |

So because I occasionally miss out capital letters, I am much dumber than when I was 7-10 years old, always using them correctly?
It's just part of nativity. th nly tym its dumin down iz wen ppl du dis, which is a reflection upon the people they speak with. And even then it's simply 'cool' and lazy, and doesn't necessarily reflect their ability to spell Definitely or Effect/Affect.
Arguing against myself though, It winds me the hell up every time I see Definately (which I see at least once a day on this forum alone) |

"Occasionally" is not the issue. Some people write entire posts without capitalizing.
e.g.
If you wrote, "so because i occasionally miss out capital letters, i am much dumber than when i was 7-10 years old, always using them correctly?" would make you look stupid. |

Just looks like my ability to use the keyboard isn't that of a highly trained professional, and the exaggerated use of said tool becomes all that more tiresome having to press the shift every time I 'need' to, since it isn't necessarily second nature to me, as it would be when writing a letter on paper. |
