I remember I bought some back way in the day, like six years ago.

thanks |

I just saw some in Namdaemun last week at the black market. I have no idea how to give you directions on how to get there. I just know it is down some stairs somewhere in Namdaemun Market... |

Why do you want to make yourself constipated? |

I personally have not had the pleasure of ever having a MRE but the 3 vets I work with all agreed that they were great at filling you up and making sure you wouldn't have to take a dump for a long time. |

While I've found hole-in-the-wall stores here and there that sold MREs, it's almost impossible to describe their locations. The best place to buy them is the military surplus section of Namdaemun. They typically run about 5,000 won each and some will discount if you buy a lot. That's much cheaper than in the U.S. where MREs run more around $8-10 each.
And if you're really interested in learning more or reading taste tests:
http://www.mreinfo.com/
You can learn to read the date codes there - though all the ones I saw in Korea were fairly recent. |

why do they make you constipated? Because I wouldn't mind having some MRE's myself, but not if they have some kind of drug in them. |

They're just super processed food with tons of carbs and sodium and no fiber. There aren't any drugs in them to stuff you up. |

Their low dietary fiber content could cause constipation in some so they were also known as "Meals Requiring Enemas","Meals Refusing to Exit",[20] "Meals Refusing to Excrete", or "Massive Rectal Expulsions". While the myth that the gum found in MREs contains a laxative is false, the crackers in the ration pack do contain a higher than normal vegetable content to facilitate egestion. In December 2006 comedian Al Franken (on his 8th USO tour at the time) joked to troops in Iraq that he'd had his fifth MRE so far and "none of them had an exit strategy". |

OP, why are you looking for them? As a meal replacement? |

Try Osan, Waegwon, Dongduchon or Anjungni for starters. |

Skip Waegwan, there's no black market there of any size that would have MREs. |

Last time I checked (about six months ago) the black market by exit 8 of Shinchon Station carried MREs. |

Citation needed. I remember seeing "exlax" printed on the package of gum. |

If the chewing gum is sugar-free and uses sorbitol as the sweetner then you've got yourself a laxative. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sorbitol#Sweetener
I'm curious too...why does the OP want MREs? Fine if he/she wants some emergency rations, but I sure hope these don't serve as a dietary staple...Eew. |
