By all means take drugs yourself but please dont pass advice on about it because your limited ideas actually can hurt others.
People who know very little on a subject always think in polarities. So you assume I must be on the other end of the spectrum if I dont agree with drugs.
This is a very difficult subject that it is obvious to me you know very little about so I just say why not post on subjects you know little about. As they say a little knowledge is dangerous and believe me you know very little on this subject.
I also encourage you to do some type of sensitivity training so you can directly feel how bad xanax makes you feel.
It is because you are quite numb that you cant feel the numbing effects.
If I want to be meaner to you I can also point out that you havent learned to feel most of your feelings yet and you assume a state of little feeling to be more advanced than one in which you can feel adverse feelings.
Drugs just mask over the real issues and you have many, as we all do.
The path to getting over them is to learn to feel them and be aware of them. Xanax doesnt solve the problem it just lets you pretend it doesnt exist which further lets the problem grow. People who dont have a way to process problems eventually end up quite messed up.
I hope something comes into your life to give you higher sensitivity and awareness so you can look back and see that its a no brainer that drugs like xanax seriously screw people up. But heh if you are not sensitive enough to feel their ill effects then ignorance is bliss girl, but it is still ignorance. |

I take xanax to sleep. When I sleep I feelwellasleep. This is good.
I don't think in black or white. I have a childhood friend who was addicted to drugs like xanax and adderal (sp?) and it broke my heart.
I, however, need a sleep aid occasionally. I've tried all of the natural remedies (warm milk, calming music, dim lighting, keeping a schedule, stretching, hive-inducing valerian root, etc) and after years of suffering, my doctor tried medicines. Xanax was the only one that didn't have an adverse reaction.
If you think I didn't research the effects, you're mistaken. It's worth the risk, in my case. I haven't had any problems. If anyone goes to a doctor and gets a prescription, they'd be foolish to not do their research.
You come off sounding like an uneducated hippie*. Sometimes medicine helps, even with a few risks. Heck, even the milk you used in your example can be unhealthy. Is it organic? Is it from a goat or cow? All chemicals can be harmful. Do your research and stop preaching. I suggested something. It's a prescription, so she'd have to go through a medical doctor first anywaynot some street corner.
*Educated hippies are cool, though |

Now who sounds smug? NYC_Gal said she takes xanax every now and then for insomnia. She's hardly on the level of a crack addict.
If you don't want to take drugs of any kind, then don't take them. If other people choose to take prescription medications that are deemed reasonable and prescribed by a doctor, I don't see the problem. Accusing someone of knowing nothing about drugs, being numb, and needing sensitivity training just because she takes a prescription pill every now and then is quite a leap.

From the Psychologist's Redundancy Handbook of Redundancy.
I'm guessing you have a bachelor's degree in psychology.
You and the double rainbow guy should get together. |

I simply am saying that the sleep walking masses pass on information as if it is truth and it sickens me to see that people accept things without questioning.
So when I see someone suggestioning powerful drugs to people like they are candy it is time to speak up. Thats the problem with powerful prescription drugs in that people treat them like they are tylenol or something. They are not mild and friggin screw up the wiring in people's brain.
At least with street drugs people know that they are not safe and therefore know there is consequences.
This girl should not be mentioning powerful drugs to people for minor problems.
Not sleeping sometimes can be natural and people should just not fight it. Or start of with mild treatments and in extreme cases take drugs for serious amounts of time with no sleep.
The scary thing is when people like ny gal suggest this drug like it is having an aspirin and then the person gets on this crap for a minor condition and their brain has long term problems that dont show up right away.
Really all I am saying is stop giving drug advice and treating powerful drugs like xanax in such a casual way.
xanax has long term effects on the wiring in your brain and sso do anti-depressants. dont take this stuff for minor conditions. learn to change your lifestyle and diet first. |

Your point is simple but your words have been many. If you're unable to pack your ideas into a reasonable number of words, and into a reasonable number of posts, I recommend you practice writing in a diary or journal and come back when you've learned concision and eloquence. Your argument is repetitive, largely off-target, and way too personal.
I avoid drugs at all costs and disagree with recommending them. We all know they are available and so I think advice on this forum should be restricted, at least at first, to lifestyle ideas that can be tried before that last resort is finally taken. NYC Gal's body has reacted in certain ways to certain drugs and the OP's will probably react differently.
And now the woodpeckers have arrived so now I must go. |

| Alprazolam, or xanax, is a benzodiazipine like valium. This is an excellent drug with no potential for abuse. The great thing about it is that if you are looking to kill time you can just pop a few of these pills and you won't remember the last 12 hours. I recommend mixing it with alcohol to intensify this effect. Also, if you're tired of having a sharp mind, take your daily dose of xanax. This will help to slow and cease your thoughts so that you can accept whatever reality you are living in. Be sure to take it everyday, and keep increasing your dose. If you don't increase the dose the effects will diminish. Please don't forget to take your dose! Otherwise you will have horrible anxiety and you won't be able to cope. Xanax is great for people with an addictive personality. These kinds of people will quickly go through their monthly perscription in less than a week. In some cases they will seek the drug out by any means necessary. Like providing oral sex for horny drug dealers. |

Of course anything can be addictive. I've been on the same dose for years, though, because I don't take it every day. I go to the doctor every other month to get my Rx filled, because I don't need many pills. If one has self control and takes things the way they're supposed to be taken, there's no problem.
I've also found that stretching right after a hot shower but before bed, as well as first thing in the morning, really helps. It's a full set of intense stretches, and leaves me limp as a noodle. Most of the time this is enough to help me sleep. |

I've never dropped acid [hard to berieve, I know] but I've had 2 acid induced like nightmares twice in my life-I've had insomnia/short sleep due to jet lag the past 2 nights.
the upside of the dream last night was that it included 3 hot chicks I've known, but were on the violent side in said dream. |

sorry if I'm repeating what other posters have already said here - I've not read through the thread, just the OP's question.
I've had difficulty sleeping pretty often and haven't found any quick fix. What a lot of insomniacs recommend though is not lying there worrying about not sleeping - this just makes it worse. Instead, get up, make some chamomile tea and read until you actually feel tired. I've found that this is useful advice. Even if you end up having 4 hours sleep you can at least make it through the day at work.
As a long term solution I wouldn't underestimate the effects of caffeine. I've found that by cutting out all drinks that contain caffeine I sleep much more soundly and can get into a routine of sleep. Generally I"ll be tired by 11 or midnight. By giving up all caffeine I mean not just coffee but tea and soft drinks too. When I first tried this the impact was enormous - even one cup of coffee in the morning can definitely have an effect if you are having trouble sleeping.
The other thing to consider developing a routine of preparing for bed - this way you condition your mind into being ready for sleep. For example at 10pm you take a bath. At half past you lie on your bed and read. At 11pm you make a cup of herbal tea. This really worked for an old friend of mine - and was the advice of his doctor.
I've found that drinking chamomile tea is helpful. Valerian tea or valerian root steeped in boiling water is stronger. You'll notice the effect of valerian in the morning though - it makes you feel a bit groggy. I'm not sure if this is available in Korea but if not I'm sure you could order it online.
Also - regular gentle exercise can help as can being careful about your diet. You might find meditation beneficial as well.
Finally, if you suffer from insomnia the general advice is to avoid things like computer games, action movies or any kind of media that is over-stimulating for a few hours before going to bed. Basically this kind of stuff gives you some kind of adrenaline rush I guess. |

What he said!!!!
I've suffered from insomnia off and on FOR YEARS!!! Drugs are good in the short term, but not for the long.
Cutting out caffeine is a good option. You may suffer from caffeine headaches for a few days, but the sleep you'll get later will be worth it!
I think the best advice is to not worry about it. The more you think "Will I sleep tonight?" the less you'll sleep. Just figure that your body knows how much sleep you need and trust it! |

You can also try listening to audio books or lectures. I love listening to lectures from the teaching company. The only problem is that as I tend to fall asleep when I put on lectures while I'm going to bed, so half of the information is retained, and the rest is either lost or mixed with my dreams.
So, if I'm listening to the history of English, for example, my understanding of it will start out with the Norman conquest and English being spoken by peasants followed by French Viking bees flying around communicating to me through telepathy. |
This. It keeps your mind focused on something until you fall asleep. I have trouble sleeping because I tend to get stressful thoughts when I try to fall asleep. Then I start worrying about not getting enough sleep. Then my alarm goes off. Audiobooks have really helped. That and melatonin. |
