I'm in a situation where I've been told two different sides. One is I get the original background check, get it notarized by a lawyer and finally by the Korean Consulate in Toronto. But then when I visit the Consulate website, it strictly says:
B: Criminal Records Search Certificate Confirmation
1. Notarized criminal records search certificate (Notarization on the photocopy of original certificate)
2. Original criminal records search certificate.
3. Photocopy and an original of the photo ID ( Driver's License or Passport )
So now do I make a photocopy and have that notarized by a lawyer or should I notarize the original CBC? I've read and been told to have the original notarized. Help! |

I am curious about this as well. Last time, I got a notary public to notarize a photocopy of the original CRC and then I sent both the photocopy and the original to the consulate.
I'm fairly sure that the consulate notarized the original and ignored the photocopy but I may be mistaken. |

Apparently only Canadians are allowed to submit the notarized degree by the Korean consulate as they don't have Apostilled authentication. Everyone else has to get it apostilled. At least my recruiter told me this. |

I am also curious cause I called the notary public, and they can get me a "Certified Copy" of the criminal background check (and degree).. But they do not notarize.
Am I giving them the wrong directions?
Thanks! |

In case anyone is wondering, I had the lawyer notarize my photocopy and the Korean Consulate stamped the photocopy version. Nothing was done to the original. |

Based on what I've experienced, it depends on what you're doing. If it's the CBC for sending overseas to your recruiter, it has to be notarized by the Korean Consulate. In order for the Korean Consulate to notarize your CBC though, it needs to be notarized by a public notary (lawyer) first. The lawyer will notarize a photocopy of your original document and the Korean Consulate will put a stamp on this.
If you're applying for your E2 through the Korean Consulate, they want to see the original CBC (not notarized) issued by local police or rcmp (until the new rules kick in january).
I'm from Toronto and am at the point where I'm waiting for my visa to be issued sometime next week. |
