Just went to Boracay over Christmas break. My hotel was not right off the main drag, but maybe a 2 minute walk to the beach. Not bad! I actually was happy that we weren't right on the beach. Most of the hotels and restaurants right on the beach blast their music late into the night. I didn't want to try to sleep to that. I stayed at Tonglen Beach Resort. Keep looking for the airfare, too. My flight to Manila and the flight from Manila to Caticlan was in the 700,000won range. At Christmas. I"m sure that you could find a better price. I found the best price from Manila to Caticlan on Zest air. www.asianspirit.com

Snorkeling: We did it, it's amazing!! Don't go with the guys who follow you around on the path or beach. You can find cheaper. Never ever go with the first guy! We found guys at a little booth on the path, haggled with them, and got a good price. Be prepared to haggle! You can get great deals there. I think we paid 600 pesos for our whole day trip. It includes a lunch buffet which is awesome! I paid an extra 150 pesos for flippers. They will take you to an island which costs extra to go on. It's worth it! The whole day was very cheap even with the extras.

Oh! When you arrive in Caticlan, guys are going to meet you as you get off the plane, and say that they will get your luggage for you. You don't need to do that. Get your own, and have someone point the way to walking to the boat dock. It's not that far. I went with 3 other girls, and none of us had a problem making it! (We found out the hard way, and shelled out a bunch of money the first time. We walked when coming back.) Unless you are taking a massive amount of luggage, you don't really need the trike. You may need a trike once on the island to get to your hotel. Some hotels will set something up for you, and meet you at the airport.

I wonder if accommodation prices in Boracay have gone up much since 2008, the last time I visited. I'm thinking I'll hit one place for one night and then go ask around for good rates.

We got cheap tickets for Xmas and New Years for there and Bohol. If you search enough, there are some deals.

I used a hotel website and somehow got 'Best Western Boracay Tropics' for 60,000 a night plus 12,000 taxes. On the site, it goes for over 120,000 for the same room. I feel quite fortunate.

There are still tickets available for Xmas day and the days around it. 1 way to Manila is like 140,000 won or so. A domestic flight can get you into Caticlan for 120,000 or so for Caticlan or 80,000 for Kalibo.

My buddy was in Boracay a few months ago. He liked it but he was pissed off at Philippines for having so many taxes. Each tax may be little, but they're annoying and give you the feeling of being nickled and dimed.

You could get a great rate that way in low season. Dec 28-Jan 1? Unlikely. I made sure I have a guaranteed reservation.

Yes, and if you are oay with being dishonest, you can always bring an extra person or two into your room and not pay for it. Or pay the extra person rate and split the bill.

You;'d be lucky to find air conditioning for that little, even in low season. But possible.
