1. i've noticed a lot of conceited losers wandering around eslcafe.com with a massive chip on their shoulder of late. ok, not really of late - always. since the year dot. you must be their leader. nice to meet you.*
2. what's it really matter? am i grading an essay here? do you understand the content of my missives? do you have sand in your vagina?**
3. what standards? what are you talking about???
4. young people? let me guess: you're american, overweight, male, single, over forty years of age, been in korea for two or more years because you have no prospects in your own country. am i right?***
i wrote out a whole bunch of abusive stuff, but then i deleted it. it was too easy. i will say this, however: you're the worst kind of moron. you don't even realise what you're complaining about.
lowercase and uppercase use has little to do with grammar, genius, if the whole text is in lowercase.
but i expect someone who is quite clearly the pinnacle of human achievement would already understand that.
go drink bleach.
* sarcasm. i can't stand you, and yet i know very little about you. weird.
** don't answer that. i think everyone already knows the answer.
*** please don't correct me. i really don't care.
well, that was fun. have a great day, everyone! |
Oh, look, everything that annoys me on this site in one post.
-Lack of capitalization.
-A conceited, angry rant over a relatively benign topic.
-Jumping to wild conclusions with little evidence.
-Juvenile or just plain tacky insults.

-Telling people to seriously harm or kill themselves, especially when it is over something minor.
I will never understand how some people make it through the interview process. |

No, YOU are.
------------
I'm very slightly underweight (still considered 'ideal' by doctors, mind).
However, I could create a statistical graph if given 30 or so volunteers, showing a clear path that indeed one's weight is directly proportional to one's ability to use capital letters:
http://www.box.net/shared/je89i0ia96
From this study, we can see that there are very few anomalies.
Those that exist are generally lower than expected which brings about an average decline in the overall status of dignity.
This leads me to conclude that the 'times' are catching up with the fat people, and lowering the average level of literate courtesy.
NB. These were all Male volunteers, so the fat is unreliable should you want a truly comprehensive study. The natural fat percentage of a female is generally higher for several evolutionary (or Intelligently Designated) reasons. |

I feel sorry for the guy using capital letters 110% of the time. |

Ah yes this is a strange anomaly where they actually multiply like bacteria and double up each sentence.
However the duplication has mutated and as a general rule the mutations decrease dramatically in overall fitness, and thus their Capital percentage is far below 100%.
However the combined Percentage of the original and the duplication sum up to an increased fitness spread across more information. |

Just another example of the invasion of 'chat-speak' into every day acceptable behavior... |

Here's the thing. It is really, Really, REALLY easy to use the shift key. Not doing so really makes you look uneducated. Cry all you want about why this shouldn't be the case, it just is.
It is totally baffling to me. It's so easy to do. Why wouldn't you do it? That old chestnut, "it's just a message board," is equally mystifying. It's a public message board, for teachers, read by a great many people the world over. It's not a note dashed off to your friend that will never be seen by anyone else. Plus, I mean, it just isn't that difficult.
It is something some people really have to stop and think through I guess, and they can't be bothered when they're in the zone.
What really cracks me up (or depresses me to no end, depending on the day), is reading yet another fuming rant about the idiocy of a co-teacher which is riddled with spelling errors, grammatical errors, and uncapitalized words. Way to really lend credibility to your narrative. |

Exactly. I'm no expert typist, and it's not even something I think about. That people got through college without learning how to type amazes me. |

People would rarely get through college typing the way they do on here or other forums and websites... That much should be obvious.
I got through College and Grammar and University, with a few modules having the highest marks in years passed.
So what does that prove?
I also got a lot of very average grades, but I never actually tried... anything... until University.
An analogy. It's god damn easy to not walk on the forbidden grass to cut a corner. But people - not lazy people, just people will do it all the time. Why? why not make a post ranting about that? It cuts a couple of inches off their journey that they are in no rush for.
Another analogy. It's not exactly decent to walk up to a stranger, strip down to nothing and start blowing them off. Yet this is apparently very enjoyable on the internet. Why not make a rant about that? It's obviously defiling the nation and changing cultures into massive nude addicts I forget the technical name for that).
The point of this one is.. it's the internet. yes it's a worldwide forum. But nobody in the world is coming on here in order to check people's grammar. They are coming here for the CONTENT of what is being said.
I will slit my throat if anybody comes on here with the train of thought 'Man... these guys aren't using capitals... I really ought to give south korea second thoughts'.
It's the power of the internet. Like the Quark, Meson and Graviton - rules of the world don't apply when you are that insignificant.
(I'm aware my analogies are terrible) |

Presentation matters. If you can't spell, don't use proper grammar, or ignore simple things like capitalization why should people read your content? It's simple common courtesy.
Nobody's asking for perfect posts. Just make a basic effort at looking like you know what you're doing. Most everyone here is supposed to be an English teacher. But some posters write like they're high school dropouts.
This isn't icanhascheezburger.com. |

It clearly doesn't matter, since I've been responded to many a time on this forum regardless of my spelling and grammar inadequacies...
But yeah, a pet peeve is a pet peeve. Like me, why do fruit flies exist. They're entirely inferior to me and do nothing but irritate me and get in my way. Why are you following me. Go away. |

At least you use capitals. The occasional error I can understand. People writing "i" and "u" is just idiotic. But hey, Korea wants a bunch of cheap, inexperienced and undereducated foreigners, that's what they've got. |

I don't think they're going through college without learning to type, I think they're going through college without learning to care. This is even more depressing. |
