So I'm heading to Hong Kong on Friday for 5 days. Does anyone have suggestions on what to see or do. I will be staying in Central. Particularly, outdoors stuff, touristy stuff, seeing the sites, etc.

Also any exotic or outstanding food suggestions.

All suggestions are greatly appreciated and will help me plan out a good trip.

thanks in advance

semi-touristy things that are actually good on a clear day/eve: star ferry. po lin monastery cable car, temple street night market, victoria peak. good sights all. eat a chicken makhani wrap sandwich at the chain cafe "pret a manger" also tops my list. so d@mn tasty. the cafe's are in many places, easiest to get to likely being in the IFC mall (Central subway stop) right by the main entrance. long ke beach is also nice, but a bit tricky to get to, and nothing much compared to major SE asian beaches. pretty walk though. lamma island is in my mind a bit overrated, but still not a bad way to spend a few hours. just wander the main neighborhoods, suck it all in (humid and pollution too)- you'll have fun!*

*maybe.

5 days is plenty of time so I would definitely check out Macau, even if you don't like to gamble. Eat some Macanese food, some egg tarts, and there is lots of exploring to be done. I also met a guy there last time who went bungee jumping the morning before taking the ferry back to HK, if that's what you mean by outdoors stuff.

For HK, pretty much what the previous poster said - Star Ferry, Victoria Peak, check out the night markets. Go over to the Kowloon side by aforementioned ferry for pics of the skyline, and check out the shopping there and in Mongkok.

Go out for drinks in Wanchai or Lan Kwai Fong, and if you eat nothing else try to eat Yum Cha. It helps if you know a local to show you the best places.

Whenever I'm in HK I just like to wander the streets and eat 4 or 5 meals a day - there's so much good food and every block has so much character that I never get bored doing that.

If you want to go for a hike, the Sai Kung Peninsula's really nice. It's to the northeast of the city in the New Territories. My buddy and I went for a short day hike there and it was quite beautiful.
Here's a good thread I saw on the Lonely Planet website which might give you some more ideas:
