Depends what you're into of course... Here's an eclectic selection.
Gorillaz - Melancholy hill, Stylo and Superfast Jellyfish. (2010) Three released singles of their new album and the only ones worth listening to. But they are REALLY worth listening to
The Black Mages - Hunter's Change (2004)
Dream Theater - The Count of Tuscany (2009) (20 minutes but hey)
dredg - Gathering Pebbles (2009)
Joe Satriani - Borg Sex (2000)
Owl City - The Tip of the Iceberg (2009)
Porcupine Tree - Time Flies (2009)
Sonata Arctica - My Dream's but a Drop of Fuel for a Nightmare (2007)
James MacMillan - A Scotch Bestiary (2003)
John Adams - The Dharma at Bit Sur (2003) - Amazing... amazing.
The Streets - The Escapist and Everything is Borrowed (2008) |

| The Black Mages is a great band name. Are they are nerdy as I assume? |

It's Nobuo Uematsu's band - the composer of final fantasy music. He got together with fellow geeks and made a prog rock type band, covering final fantasy songs in a cool rock way.
On of my favourites, really. 3 albums. |

There have been several great rock/indie suggestions, so I'll throw some hip-hop into your mix: The Roots' new album, How I Got Over, is freaking phenomenal. Check out the title track and "Radio Daze", and then understand that the whole album is that good.
The collaboration between Nas and Damien Marley was also great from start to finish -- two brilliant MCs and a kick-ass live ensemble. |
