| At an after school program I know I make about half more than my Korean female co-teacher (a shame) but does anyone know about public school teachers? |

| A young Korean coteacher a few years ago told me salaries start at 2 million won per month and go up 100000 won per month every year,meaning that after 30 years of service its 5 million per month. |

Not to mention its almost impossible for a K-teacher to get fired, they'd only be transferred if there was a problem.
And they have the opportunity to do private class. |

Tell that to the 134 teachers who were fired here. They were fired for supporting an government opposition party.

And just recently there were another seven who were fired for opposing the government bringing in standardized testing. I believe it was talked about on Dave's.
Teachers can easily be fired here...even for things that wouldn't be a problem back in the West as the link above shows.
And that's just two cases.
Even if they don't get fired they can still be subject to financial penalties. 430 teachers who protested against the teacher evalution system in 2007 were taken into police custody and fined. |

| If I were a Korean I'd shoot for a job as a teacher in the public system. If your not controversial it's basically a lifetime job with good benefits. I'd choose a subject that parents don't care much about like social studies, art or music. |

| Yeah music would be ace. The serious students will be getting 1 on 1 tutoring anyway so little pressure from the parents. |

2 million + 30x12x(0.1 million) = 38 million
Perhaps, you meant to say that the salary goes up 100,000 won every year. |

No, he was right. It goes up 100,000won a month every year. What you said means that in year two, they would make 24,100,000. |

So it goes up by 1.2m won a year but must max out after 4 years or something? Clearly it can't just keep going up by 1.2m per year.
Or it goes up by 1mill every 10 years? That seems a little slow? |

No, he was right. It goes up 100,000won a month every year. What you said means that in year two, they would make 24,100,000. |
No, that's not what I meant. When I said salary, I was implicitly assuming it was the monthly salary that would go up by 100,000 won. At any rate, I just realized that he was already saying what I just said he might have meant.
For some reason, when I first read what he wrote, his wording made it sound like their monthly salary was increasing by 100,000 won every month. I guess these diving lessons are making me tired. |

After I reread what he wrote, I realized that he was just saying that the monthly salary increases by 100,000 won each year. After all, 2 + 30*0.1 = 5. So, actually, it is nothing special. My monthly salary has gone up on average 0.23 million won per year. |
