I move out on the 27th, and within the last several days, I have had all these potential future occupants and real estate agents come to my apartment and random times in the afternoon and evening, totally unannounced. Weds, Thurs, Fri was the only summer vacation I had, and it's back to the grind Monday.

This has been happening 2-3 times a day, everyday, for the last few days in a row. It's getting real old, real fast. I'll tell my coteacher Monday to call the landlord and have clients visit before 5pm to keep them out of my hair. I never had this problem with three other contracts I finished in Korea. Guess my public school in SMOE won't have a replacement English Teacher, then?

I got up late today and was taking a shower around 1pm, and outside my bathroom door, I hear voices inside my apartment. I just lock my bathroom door, continue my shower and ignore them. Sorry, it's the weekend, and sorry, I don't work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week like a lot of the locals. If I'm not at work or with friends, I'm usually at my apartment. Some type of schedule or heads up would be nice. //END RANT

Got a chain on your door? Put one
that'll stop them wandering in while you're in the shower.

Just walk out naked, that'll teach them to come in unannounced. Make it look like you'rereally upset about it and it's a complete mistake though, you gotta sell it like they're disturbing your privacy. For good measure, get a good half-chub going (if you're a guy).

And don't oversell your performance. Let us know if you do this and the reaction you get. It could be funny.

I'm also moving out the 27th and have had a similar problem. It's not that they've been coming a lot, but when they have it's been at like 9 AM on a Saturday, totally unannounced, and when I take 30 seconds to put some pants on (after asking him to wait a second in Korean) he rings the doorbell again and says "real estate-uh". Dude, no one else is ringing the doorbell to my freaking shoebox at 9 in the morning on a Saturday, I know who you are, should I answer the door with it all hanging out? I don't get it.

They are supposed to give you notice - that's what happens with Koreans.

Yes, but then they lose the satisfaction of repeatedly ringing my doorbell.

Agreed. We're trying to rent/sell our place as well, and if they don't give notice, they don't get to visit.

I told the realtor that they could only come between 5 and 9pm Mon-Fri, and I needed to know a day in advance. I refused to give a key (I'd changed my locks after moving in) because I've got a lot of electronics and jewelry, and don't like the idea of strangers in my home while I'm away.

I second the walking out naked, though. Wink

On the other hand, last time I house-hunted, I found myself being shown through Korean homes where the residents had obviously gotten no notice. Often as not, they'd scramble to offer me a coffee or fruit juice.

Even if they give notice, they won't necessarily take no for an answer. I had a guy calling me at 10 p.m. asking to come over. I said no, it's too late and two minutes later he was banging on my door. He had obviously called from the parking lot.

I've been through this and it used to drive me nuts. The agents will actually pull on the doorknob first before knocking.

Makes me wanna throw them down the stairs.

I'm moving out of my place and at least the real estate person is kind enough to text me a bit before they show up. I've told her to call me 24 hours in advance but that's fallen on deaf ears so what i've said is that if i don't get prior notice than i'm not changing the keycode. I made a "guest keycode" that i give out and then when they leave i change it back to my own keycode.

If you have an electronic keypad type lock, can they be opened also by a master code? Or by a one of those electronic key things that you hold next to some electronic locks?

I also have a key pad on my door. I changed the code after I moved in but I'm not sure if those locks can also be opened by an electronic card/key. I've never seen anyone else in the apartment building (it's a high rise, officetel) use a card. Everyone that I've seen, punches in a code on the pads. I know this because the buttons make beeping noises when pressed and I've heard people open their doors while I was nearby. I've never seen them use a card or key thingy. But I'm very curious about whether there building superintendant or the owner might have a key.

How would someone get in the apartment if they forgot their code?

Also, what happens on those electronic locks if the battery dies and I'm on the outside of the door? I know the batteries last a long time, but they must eventually die. What happens if the occupant is outside while it happens? How do they get back in?
