Just wondered if anyone knows about this, or even better, a way around it.

Basically I can transfer image files to my new cellphone no problem and they work fine, but the phone refuses to play mp3s that I transfer to it. I suspect this is something to do with stopping you putting your own songs on, so therefore you have to buy crappy K-pop songs for your ring tone if you want something new. Is that why they won't play?

Anyway, does anybody know a way around this by any chance? Like can I convert the mp3s somehow so they will play?

It is an LG-SU410 by the way.

They often need to be converted. My LGSH150A phone needs them to be converted to dcf files. You can use melon player to do it for free. I've transferred a handful to my phone that way, but I have an ipod touch so I don't usually use it for music.

I'll be honest. I did this like.. hmm.. 1.5 - 2 years ago. So frankly the memory isn't that good and I don't think I have melon player installed anymore.

I found this thread, use a program called Auto-melon it'll convert many files at once:

If that model is DRM free, then you might have the same problem I did with my LG phone. Mine can play MP3 files if they are in a directory with the same name as the directory the free sample MP3s were in, including the full directory structure. I just copied that file structure to the mini SD card and after that it found and played the MP3 files and podcasts without a problem. With the phone connected to my PC, I just found that folder with the MP3 files and copied it and the root folder. Good luck.

gargh this is so maddening! Evil or Very Mad

seems like melon player is the actual only way to do this. I tried to muddle my way through the sign up process using google translator, but when I put in my ARC number it said smething like 'please check whether foreigner', and wouldn't let me proceed.

can you remember if you signed up under someone elses details last time?

I think they're telling you to choose the foreign option to sign-up
When you click register, click the right most one. It's for foreigners.

thanks for your help.

I managed to sign up for Melon with the help of a Korean friend, and I actually managed to convert files to DCF format....

but they STILL won't play on the phone! just to check I tried some other formats like MIDI, and WAV but they wouldn't play either.

Could there be a way around this? Or is my phone just protected to the max from any outside sound files?

I know I'll probably have to settle for the awful sounds already on the phone Sad but if anyone can help....

The phone doesn't seem to be available in english speaking countries. There are a couple random press releases, but nothing substantial. Maybe get the same Korean friend to naver the phone and a few key words, he might turn up a how to guide.
