I have 5 days off for Chuseok. Any suggestions where to go. I was thinking about leaving the country looking at Shanghai. Where would you go, and why would you go? |

If you don't live in Seoul and haven't been there much yet, it might be worth going there. I'm led to believe it is deserted at Chuseok and so it will be much easier to get around and there will be no queues for anything.
Obviously you may well prefer to go abroad as you have already alluded to... |

I would say if you're thinking China, Beijing would be your better bet if you haven't already been. I spent 5 days in Beijing and thought it was just about the right amount of time. I spent almost 2 months in Shanghai, BUT was also flat broke at the time but felt there wasn't really all that much to see or do you couldn't do in any other big city. |

Tickets are jacked up for Chuseok week and considering its a month away, the tickets to fly abroad will probably be at least double. That said, flying to Shanghai might be one of the cheapest flights from Seoul during off times. I got tickets to Shanghai last year for 200K round.
Try Taipei or Beijing also, those flights are generally cheap. SE Asia will be expensive and the weather will be great in NorthEast, so you mine as well save some money.
ABC is right, I'm heading to the states this year, as I have 6 days off, but last year I was in Seoul and it was dead. Besides there being a lot of Korean restaurants closed, it was great having things so quiet for once. So hanging in Seoul might be an option if you don't live in the big city. |

If you just want to relax and have a look around Seoul, it's good for Chuseok.
But if you want to do things, you'll want to go another time.
It's kind of odd being there with so many things closed and so little traffic (for Seoul.) Of course, a lot of the restaurant chains and bars are open, but forget about museums and such.
I was there a couple years ago for Chuseok, and it was OK for a day or so, but I was just bored after that. |
