Hey all,

I just signed a contract with GEPIK and was wondering about the "6 hours of overtime" bit... it says that the employee can be asked to work 6 hours every week at overtime pay but may decline anything over 6 hours. I was wondering how often this 6 hours of overtime work happens? Current GEPIK teachers would be a wonderful source of info on this... thank you for your help!

All overtime work during your regular 8 hour day. It just cuts into your planning/deskwarming time. Most likely special afterschool class or something. You almost never work outside of that. Unless they make you do an English festival. Which is pretty rare.

Basically you come to school for 40 hours a week and have 22 hours teaching time. Anything more than that 22 hours of teaching is overtime work. Extra pay for the same hours. Any of those hours your don't teach is lesson planning time.

Thank you! I have no problem working extra hours, I was just curious on how it would potentially work. Smile

I work for Gepik and my school gives me an extra 5 classes a week, everyweek for after school, for a total of 27 hours a week. For the regular public school classes, I have 19 hours (a combination of grades 3-6), then I have 8 afterschool classes spread through the week.

However I have a friend who also works for Gepik just down the road, and since his school is larger, he has 24 regular classes (grades 3-6), and no afterschool classes.

Expect the unexpected when you get to your school. As the number of students, parents' interest in English, and the habits of the faculty will dictate what your schedule will be like.

You are lucky! I hate overtime. I think I get an extra 20k per class which for me is just not worth it. I'd rather be my time into studying or extra prep for my regular classes, since I pretty much run the show without a co-teacher.

Also, I'm not a fan of the lack of a decent text book compounded with a mix of vastly different level students. It would be a different story if there could at least be an attempt to put students of the same level together along with a text book.
