Hey all,
I'll be finishing up my contract and leaving SK on September first, but from what I understand my completion bonus and airfare reimbursement won't be paid until (at least) September 4th. I was just wondering if anyone knows if/how I can send money home after I'm gone. Do I have to set something up with KB before I leave, or can I do it all from my bank in Canada? Last time I went to the bank (to open my account) they sent me with someone who spoke no English, so it was a bit difficult. I'm guessing to setup something like this, I might need the help of someone who speaks both Korean and English.
I tried searching, but had no idea what to look for since most stuff is about sending money home while you're still in SK.
Also, I heard that some school will send the money directly to your bank at home - anyone had that happen?
Thanks in advance. |

If you are at a public school - make arrangements at your bank for internet banking and foreign remittance.
If you are at a hagwan - get paid before you leave or kiss it goodbye.

I tried to have my American bank transfer some money to my Korean bank and they coundn't do it for some reason. I could have probably called and asked what the problem was but just decided to keep taking money out of the ATM. |

You need to physically be here in Korea to transfer money overseas (at least with Shinhan bank). I have a friend who had this problem. You might want to go to the bank and ask.
My friend had this issue, and she used online banking to transfer the money to me, and then I sent it to her home bank account. If you have someone in Korea you trust, you can do it this way. |

Won't your school just wire you the money? Give them your Canadian bank account info. I've had lots of friends do it this way and none have had problems. |

I'm pretty sure KEB lets you transfer money overseas through Internet banking. At least I hope so as this is what I'm planning on doing. |
