Some Canadians prefer Big Macs to sex: survey
Karen Hawthorne, National Post
Jul. 22, 2010

http://www.nationalpost.com/m/blog.html?b=life.nationalpost.com/2010/07/22/some-canadians-prefer-big-macs-to-sex-survey&s=Blogs

Most of us rely on fast food to sub for a healthy meal at some point but wolfing down a two-patty, triple-bun burger on a regular basis spells trouble, if the Academy Award-nominated documentary, Super Size Me, got its facts right. Big Macs, for example, run more than 500 calories and contain plenty of sodium and fat.

Some Canadians, however, prefer noshing on the iconic MacDonalds big burger to sex, a survey has found. Thats right, sex. Weve heard of comfort food, comfort eating and food to rouse the senses for sex, but eating a burger instead of having sex? What about all those feel-good endorphins and scoring intimacy points with our partners during a quality session of lovemaking? Is our relationship with fast food (and its gut-curdling aftermath) stronger, better and far more satisfying than the one with the person to whom weve pledged our love (or love right now)?

What would [external] Dr. Ruth, the celebrity psychosexual therapist, have to say about all this?

We asked Louis Payette, national media relations manager for the golden arches chain, what he thought about the survey results. Ipsos-Reid conducted the survey on behalf of McDonalds Canada, so it was a fair question.

As with anything in life, its all about choice, balance and moderation, but there seems to be something most Canadians can agree on eating a Big Mac is one of lifes greatest pleasures, Payette says.

You have to wonder what his partner thinks about his devotion to the product. Were not talking about dinner at one of Chef Gordon Ramsays restaurants or a top-flight steak at Ruths Chris in Toronto. This is Mickey Ds.

The sample survey indicates that 33% of Canadians have visited McDonalds after midnight for a Big Mac. The survey also found that 5% of the adult population equating to more than 1.3 million people when given the choice of having sex or eating a Big Mac said they would choose the burger.

OK, now, hands up for sex followed by a rack of ribs from the Baton Rouge chain?

I suspect a lot of people wouldn't want to have sex with that 5% as well. Anyways, those stats are a mess. I don't know many people who eat at Mcdees even occasionally, so that 5% should be of people who eat at Mcdees regularly or even occasionally. That should narrow it down quite a bit.

Really depends on how this is being spun - I can't be bothered to look up studies, but I'm fairly certain that you could insert anything in place of 'Big Mac' and the numbers would still be there. 5% of Canadians could have low sex drives, sexual dysfunction, psychological issues, etc etc that result in them having a low interest in sex.

I'm sure the same number could be used for people wanting to post on Dave's. Gotta go, she's waiting.

I had some Canadian guys try to put the block on before, with one guy even using lame moral arguments as a thin veil over his own intentions that I was thwarting, but the Canuck women I met were pretty wild and easy! Viva Tim Horton's! (the morning after)

I haven't had as many sexes as I have McBurgers (by a long way), so MacDonalds is far more reliable. I can trust it. Much prefer that.

Saying that, I've had as many macdonald meals as I have had sex this year (0) so I suppose I have to remind myself to be sure.

Fact is, when you get older, you tend to go for what's easier. Sad but true.

It can happen. I was once so drunk and had the uber-munchies that I totally blew off this one girl and ran for Jimmy John's. It wasn't until I was done with the sandwich that I realized what an idiot I was. Then again I was so drunk that the beer-goggles might have been in full swing. Maybe Jimmy Johns saved me.

Wow! Good to know it left enough of an indelible impression in your mind that you felt the need to post about it on a public discussion forum! Just curious, was she under 150lbs??

It's not just Canadians.

According to a recent Nutrisystem Diet Index study, a whopping 52 percent of (American) women polled said they would forgo sexual activity for an entire summer rather than gain 10 pounds.

I might choose a Big Mac over sex, but that is entirely dependent on who I would be having sex with. Was that part of the poll?
