An, ummmm... interesting Korea tourism promotion video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HjtASMEGtA
It starts off all fine and dandy with gayageum, hanboks, temples, palaces and the like. Then it gets worse with bad electric violin and city scenes.
Go forward to 1:52, when the awful shopping music starts. My favorite line is at 2:05, it sure sounds like they're saying "I want to eat rice cakes with you."
What in the....
EDIT: the quote is at 2:05, not 2:02 as I originally stated.

Okay... that was a bit disturbing... the beginning is beautiful and then it all just gets weird after that... |

The tourism videos are always just too pompous here. I mean, part 2 is really just an upgraded version of this in a way, and I like the trot much better! |

Koreans are still new to tourism. I think they make videos of what they want, not what tourists from other countries want. |

Keep in mind KTO workers have to pass a test to work there, regardless of their education and professional experience. So the guy in charge of making this video probably majored in Engineering, Medecine or something. No surprise the video is a jumble of images defying every marketing principle. |

All the tradition of Japan, all the shopping of Hong Kong, all the food of Thailand, all the nature of - well - four seasons.

EXACTLY! It totally seems like one of those end-of-broadcasting clips they show late at night when a tv station ends its programming.
Notice how the Westerners in the vid look like esl teachers. |

There was one a year or two ago where a girl was promoting one of Korea's amusement parks. She was excited about bumper cars because that is what will bring foreigners to Korea. |

I like the traditional music, but unfortunately it is extremely rare to see it like the video suggests live entertainment of that sort being readily available. I seen what must had been Korea's best and only traditional performances while waiting for a flight last August at ICN. They had a stage set up in the center McDonald's is located on with really good traditional performances, but if you come for traditional music and historical sightseeing, you are coming for the wrong reasons. Very little old music, historical sites, and wildlife species exist today due to this land receiving a real raking in the past by invading enemies. What you do see are modern reincarnations of what once must had been and then a whole lot of brand new modern developments crammed into the cities. I recognized many things in the video, but it's overly highly stylized to ridiculous levels as are many tourism promo gimmicks around the world. Korea is worth a visit on your grand tour of Asia to put things into perspective. Tourism is cheesy domestic business, it's too focused on technology business and trying to be modern.
I can't turn down the offer of delicious pumpkin nut rice cakes.
It's all about 2:05 for the ladies!!! |

The video was also obviously made at least 15 years ago judging by the hair styles |
