I had a good one but I can't remember it all too clearly.

It did involve:

Prostitutes/Bar girls
A pimp
A ladyboy
A nice apartment in downtown Bangkok
A rooftop pool
Drugs and alchohol
Home-cooked food

It DID NOT involve

S ex
Money being exchanged

Hmmm.

What it did involve versus what it did not involve makes it sound like a rare occurrence.

my best memory in Thailand, like most places, involves getting way off the beaten track and ending up somewhere where other tourists rarely if ever venture... where nobody speaks English around you, you are basically lost, and in the middle of nowhere. But, its hot, there are miles of lovely sprawling countryside to walk through, and friendly people wave and approach you. The sun is on your back, you see a couple of elephants stroll by and watch the pretty women decked out in their colorful and wildly stylish dresses...

I took a bus out from Songkhla... got off somewhere on the road...got a motorbiker to drive me for a few miles... arrived at a large shallow flooded lake... got paddled around in a dugout for a couple of hours.. beautiful.

After coming from 2 years living in Phuket I have too many stories, I have to think about which ones are worth posting.
But for those who like to walk when I was killing time in Bangkok getting my E2 I was hanging out in Lumpini Park and when leaving I went on an over pass to cross over a busy street but it went on so I followed it and just kept going, it went through a residential area above the street, over canals, I had to get off before it ended but it was a really surprising pleasant stroll through normal Bangkok and I could not see why it was there in the first place. Nice surprise.

About the price of Gold, my Thai girlfriend just went back after visiting me here and she is amazed about how cheap "white gold" is in Korea.

I love Thai women. I had a Thai girlfriend once. I would do again but it seems, likely, that the only ones that speak English use their language abilities for prostitution on the side... kinda hard to believe what they say sometimes.

Been there a lot and I don't understand, unless this is just one more I went to a really touristy part of Thailand and there were prostitutes so all Thai girls are whores comment, kind of like me judging Korean girls by what I saw on hooker hill.

I know it sounds like a silly comment to make. But if you think about it, the only time you're most likely to meet a good looking , English- speaking Thai woman, is in a tourist area... because if they can speak English well, they often get jobs associated with tourism...and I reckon not many of them are going to stick to making 1000 baht a month at a real job if they can make that in a night.
thailand has long been geared to tourism and finding ways to relieve tourists of cash- you can't compare it to korea or hooker hill..
I love Thai women, as i say, but there are just too many nasty std's going around to risk it with them anymore..

There are definitely pockets in tourist areas where silver-tongued attractive women are looking to relieve you of cash but I have had the same Thai girl for 2 years and she speaks English well and has not STD's and believe it or not there are thousands that fit that bill in Phuket alone. I really consider the Thai girls have STD's and are looking to part you from your cash indicative of those who have never spent a lot of time there and don't get off the beaten path. If you had travelled around you would know that the attitude found on Sukhumvit, Patpong, Pattaya and Patong is largely unique to those areas. I am lucky that I know the number of Thais that I do as I would hate to share your opinion re: Thai girls. I wish I could I meet you down there on a holiday, you'd be pleasantl amazed how off base you are.

However, this is supposed to be abou Thailand stories so I will move away from the debate on Thai girls and when I have the time put down some good ones.

Two years ago. A group of friends and I took the boat over to Ko Samet from Ban Phe, stayed on the beach for the weekend. There was the 10 of us, 1 bar, 1 restaurant, and a 2 km white sand beach we had all to ourselves.

One of our party had a little too much tequila, and she tossed her cookies all over the bathroom. All over. The beach house we were all sleeping in stank, so I took a blanket and went out and slept on the beach.

The stars were incredible. Around 4 am I woke up and found a small bird sleeping under my feet. It wasn't bothering me so I let it just stay there. In the morning I woke up and saw the most incredible sunrise I ever saw in my life. If I died and went to heaven, heaven would look like that beach.

I taught for just a few months in Thailand at a big school with a big grade six of 5 or 6 classes with 25-30 students in each, which I was in charge of along with a Thai teacher with very good English. Even some of the non-English teachers spoke it well. Then also some spoke none. Anyway it was just a bit weird whenever a grade six girl would ask "Where you come from?"------ which all the prostitutes say.

While we Westerners are frequently appalled by the ignorance that Koreans have about the rest of the world (and their behavior outside this country endears them to no one), we as westerners also piss people off in places such as Thailand. The jewel that Manner mentioned, Koh Samet, is preserved as a National Park. I had the good fortune to have a honeymoon there. ( The sand there is like sugar.) But there are too many good places spoiled by insensitive Farang (the term Euro-trash comes to mind), with loud, arrogant touroids embarrassing themselves and by extension, the rest of us, by being loutish and boorish, and yes, not all of them are German, but we all look same there.
