On the health statement form, one question asks if you have had any serious diseases or injuries in the past 5 years. I had surgery in my left ear a few years ago to fix otosclerosis (loss of hearing) and it returned my hearing to normal. Should I write this? Also, I have the same condition in my right ear, although my hearing is still ok-ish, but will prob need the operation at some point in the future. Do they do a hearing test as part of the health check when you arrive in Korea? It's not really a big deal to me, my hearing never gives me problems, but don't really know if it would be considered a 'serious disease or injury'?
Thanks.

Non-issue, not tested.

I've had my hearing tested 3 times for PS jobs (by Korean govt. approved clinics/hospitals).

I have a pretty severe hearing loss in my right ear (damage from hunting rifles). This loss was tested at 25% many years ago, and I guess it has become worse over the years.

However, my hearing has always passed the K govt. test, so I'm not sure how strict the test is. Don't worry. Being partly deaf can be a blessing in a Korean public school classroom. Man those kids can make some noise.

Good luck.

Most health checks for E2 visas include a hearing test (depends on the hospital). Just don't say anything about your history of hearing problems and take the test. You'll pass.

I have partial hearing in both ears and their hearing tests have never caught anything.

It isn't the hearing test you should be worried about. If you wear hearing aids, like I do, you'll be considered mentally retarded by the enlightened masses of the great Han nation.

Seriously, I kid you not.. they consider hearing aids to be for the very old or the mentally incompetent.

I was told by a boss if someone complained about me wearing hearing aids that the school wouldn't be able to "protect" me.

So yeah.. keep that in mind.

Thanks for your replies, I'll probably just not write it on the health form. I don't wear hearing aids- my hearing in the operated ear is normal now, so I suppose no one would ever know I'd had the op. As for the hearing test, I guess the other ear wouldn't have such a good result, but when I last went to the hospital the doc said it was still ok. Doubt I'd have any problems hearing a bunch of screaming kids so won't be affecting the job!
