|
|
Im having problems with my bank card, its a scotiabank card (canadian bank) and I cant seem to be able to withdraw any money? I've tried a few different abms and all of them keep giving me this no access to account note?? I do have money in my account. If anyone has the solution to this please advise. My card has the "plus" logo on the back of the card which supposedly means I can withdraw from abms overseas...
cant contact my bank, cus I dont have a phone YET! |

You won't be able to use your Canadian bank card in Korean ATM machines. You might want to try the City Bank ATM, that's probably work. But if you're expecting to use your Canadian card in Korea, it isn't going to happen. They are very insular when it comes to banking. Expect the same thing in Japan also. |

TECO is correct - my only advice would be to go to the Scotiabank 'branch' (very limited services) and see if you can withdraw money through a teller, or ask them if it's possible to activate your card to work in Korean ATMs. |

Find a 7/11, 25 or any kind of 24 hour corner store chain with an ATM machine. You should be able to use your Canadian card there. I know that I did a few years ago.
Good luck |

Are you sure some sort of security service has not been instituted. I mean come on your Customer is Canadian and one day his card is being used in South Korea. The bank might have a service that will to protect your money just refuse overseas withdrawals.
Also you might want to try Global Service ATM. Next time you look at a ATM look for those words. |

Thank you all for your advice and comments. I did notify my CND bank in advance, they informed me that Scotiabank does not operate (have a brach in SK), but I would be able to withdraw money via abm.
I will walk around the streets of Yanju looking for more banks. I have yet to open an account here since I'm still awaiting for my immigration card... |

I am able to use my Canadian ATM card here. The link Skippy provided has good info. You need to find a Global ATM...it will be marked. Usually there is only one at a bank (not all banks). Try a KB Bank...I usually can find a global ATM there. |

I remember when I first came to Korea I needed to withdraw money from my Bank of Montreal Card. I specifically remember trying lots of different banks until I used the "Global ATM" machine at the Hana Bank in Myeong-dong and it worked. |

Where is this Scotia Bank branch that you know of in Korea?
I've never heard of any Canadian bank offering commercial banking services in Korea. |

No he's not. All you need to do is find a "Global" atm, it'll be identified as such. They are all over the place, and you will even find them on random street corners. I used to use one that was outside a generic corner shop when I first got here.

Apparently a lot of things you haven't heard of. |

Scotiabank offers commercial banking, not retail banking, in Korea. Even if it did offer retail banking you still wouldn't be able to access your Canadian bank account or use it like a bank in Canada. Well, aside from a bank machine, if they have any.
Banking is one of those industries that is tightly controlled by respective governments. So, in the vast majority of cases, there is no seamless branch banking between countries. |

No, but they might be able to help him figure out why his card isn't working (if there was actually some problem with it), they could probably also point him to a global ATm if that is the only problem, they might even have one on premises.
it does say "and some retail banking services." so they do offer something. Maybe they have a genuine scotiabank ATM on site. |
