Hi, just moved to Dong Tan and all my friends are in Suwon.

Any locals know a relatively quick bus into the Suwon Station area?

The only ones I've found take upwards of an hour, as they meander through the rest of the city before getting there...

You're SOL matey, city buses meander a lot at the best of times, and Suwon stn is hideous for traffic. There is a subway stn in Dongtan to Suwon if you didn't know. Bus 300 goes from somehwere near Byeongjeom Homeplus to Suwon city hall without meandering, if that's useful for you.

Yes I live in Dongtan and the station is brand new and quite nice. You can take the line 1 from Dongtan to Suwon pretty easily. The problem is that there are just a few buses that go to Dongtan station and they do not make the rounds frequently.

The quickest route to Suwon from Dongtan is to take the 708 bus to Byungjeom station and then hop on line 1 to Suwon. Or you can take the 708 bus and it actually will basically stop by the Happy Tree apartments which is a short walk to Dongtan station and from there you can take the line 1 to Suwon.

The 708 bus makes the rounds as much as any in Dongtan to if you wait at the stop you can pick it up usually very quickly. Other than that I don't know of an express bus that goes to Suwon.

Take the 7007 bus to Suwon from Dongtan. The bus takes no more than 30 mins. to get to Suwon Station.

Where in Dongtan are you and where in Suwon do you want to go? "Near the station" isn't very accurate.

Your best bet is the bus stops on National Highway 1, the road that runs in front of Byeongjeom station. There are half a dozen buses that go TO Suwon Station, NEAR Suwon Station, or BY Suwon Station, so it really depends on what you're looking for.

Going from Dongtan to Suwon Station is not possible on a single bus, but there are numerous buses that will take you up into Suwon, to the main road that goes in front of the station (National Highway 1 goes directly north through Suwon, and it crosses with this main road), and you can transfer to a dozen other buses that go down that road. Depending on how "near" the station you want to be, you have many options that will get you there in short time. Going to Byeongjeom station (or even Dongtan Station), when you factor in the bus time, the waiting time at the station, and the travel time, you're probably going to break even.

Just read the signs at the bus stop. Might have to take some time riding random buses to figure out what specific places are (if no one has any other suggestions of the names), but it's doable.

I think the 303 goes Dongtan E-mart to Suwon Station, if that helps. Don't know how long it takes, though.

You can use the Seoul Metropolitan Government's bus map (in English) to search for a bus route... http://bus.congnamul.com/SeoulRouteWebApp/view_english/map.jsp I used to think this site was great, but they don't seem to keep it up to date (they still have at least one"Wal-mart" on the map and those all changed to E-marts years ago). Some of the newer bus routes don't turn up at all.

You also have to install an ActiveX controller that doesn't work with Firefox (it works with Internet Explorer). I've never had any luck searching by name, so I just manually adjust the map to my area and then use "Select on Map" to input Departure and Destination points.

If you know even a little Korean (and can type or copy and paste the Korean spelling of your locations), I recommend using Daum. http://local.daum.net/map/index.jsp I copy and paste the results into Google Translate, which works adequately to get me where I'm going. Click on "대중교통길찾기" at the top of the page (third from the left), which is "Public Transport Search" to enter your departure and destination points in Korean.

You can sort the results to 버스 (bus), 지하철경로 (subway), or 버스+지하철경로 (bus + subway). This website has pretty up to date info, plus you can zoom in on almost every bus stop to see what the area looks like so you won't feel as lost the first time (works like Google Street View). Just click the round web-cam looking thing on the top right of the map, then click the area you want to look at on the map.
