|
|
All figures are VERY approximate and time is not an issue.
Bangkok
Once off:
Incheon-Bangkok return: 450,000 won (incl tax.)
Daily costs:
acommodation: 10,000 (guest house or Youth hostel..
I hate Kao San road!!)
Food: 10,000 (probably less)
incidentals: 5,000
cost for 7 day trip: 625,000 won
benefits: I love thailand, I love thai food, i can stay longer, its warm
Fukuoka
Once off
Pusan - Fukuoka return: 170,000 (hydrofoil?)
I know there are cheaper ways, but occasionally get sea sick
and want the fastest possible crossing.
Daily costs:
Acommodation: 50,000 won
food: 25,000 won
incidentals: 15,000 won
cost for 3 day trip: 440,000 won
benefits: cheaper
So is it worth around 200,000 won extra to go to thailand? (for twice as long)
I don't want to argue about mistakes I've made in the pricing.. the point is it would be cheaper to go to Japan but I like Thailand better..
What would you do?

'One night in Fukuoka', just doesn't have the same ring does it? |

If you have the time, Thailand is definitely better. |

Fukuoka is nice.
But my heart belongs to Bangkok.
Go for Thailand!!!
(But I agree with you about Kao San Road. Dirty, nasty place full of unwashed hippee-wannabee euro trash. - Although I did find a great collection of Philip K Dick books there.) |

How do you stay so cheap? 50,000 a night? Hostel?
I don't sleep in dives, so just wondering. |

Did your boss pay for your trip? or did you get the usual "ahh, it cost nothing, I'll reimburse you 100.000 won" |

Business hotels in Japan are about 5-7000 yen a night. Hostels are about 2-3000 yen, often with a curfew. |

Personally I found Bangkok a sweaty hot hell on earth full of pollution, prostitution, madness. I went for 7 days but changed my ticket to return atfter 5.
If I hadplanned better I would have dropped the visa stuffoff on day one and travelled down south to an island or something better than the crazy city. I think travelling alone in Thailand isn't so great though. My friend John got all his stuff stoen from his motel room down south when he was on the beach alone. Lost his passport and all his money and plane tickets.
He had to beg for money and food until he could get to the Aussie Embassy and get emergency help. |

Yeah I didn't like it much the first time I was there, the second time I found it much better. I wouldn't stay there the whole week though, I'd probably catch the sleeper train up to Chiang Mai. I'm not really into the whole beach thing.. |

Thailand, not one week but 2, double your daily budget (you don't drink ?), and get out of Bangkok itself fast. Tons of destinations, get a guide book (duh).
IMO |

Hmm.. this is intersting. My first trip to Thailand I hated it as well. Ko Sahn Road and just felt stuck with a bunch of 'college-acting' kids or something. Really did not like it at all.
Finally went back again and avoided staying on Ko Sahn Road and it was a totally different experience. MUCH MUCH BETTER! Sukhimvit was easy to spend a week as there are so many options for food, book-buying, and just feeling like you are in really cool multicultural and everything is available (even moreso) then being back home. |

Thailand, hands down.
I stay in the Siam Square area. I had a great $10 a night room (it was a double, they have $5 singles, but all were full.) Its centrally located, 1/2 block from the skytrain, and close to lots of shopping and theatres.
I love Bangkok, but I like Manila also, so I may not be the best judge. |

One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble too.
When do you plan on going? |
