I wish they had a "shaking my head" emoticon here.

When will you guys realize that learning Korean will increase your chances of meeting a girl...sad.

Besides, is that all you think about, OP?

In my search of this forum I think I read somewhere a post by a guy who says that he saves money by chatting up girls on College Campuses as opposed to at malls and other social gathering hubs. Anyone care to verify this as being a way to get in with the ladies? Also, these are the ladies most likely to accept that I have no money for them, right (because I presume that they are also broke).?

If not who are the ladies that are broke, understand that I am also broke, but will give me some play simply based off my charm?

Prepare to be kicked out...your not the only foreigner who's tried it and the campus security guards aren't too pleased by the white dude without student ID who seems to loiter about. I had a friend who was accidently tagged by campus police after getting reports of foreigners doing this.

C'mon, it's not like they don't see you....

Leave the street gaming to the actual streets... works sometimes...better on a friday morning in Hongdae.

I'm teaching at a college now....man, it's gotta be easy as hell getting girls if your a foreign student.

i only think this is somewhat true... pick up a few meet and greet lines of korean, try it on some girls and thats all you need. the ones who are willing to date a foreigner arent interested in them because of their korean skills...

i find trying to speak and not doing a very good job at it works the best... at least for me

Well, since I won't really have language skill or money to spend for that matter, I best just stick to the foreigner women.

And I write this to say that I'm not trying to satiate a particular Asian-girl fetish (I already handled that in Japan), I just want to make sure that as I will be out of my comfort zone for 1 year, I will have nice females of any nationality to keep me company

But there is even more competition for them, not just among English teachers, but soldiers as well.
Learning Korean isn't that hard and there are many sites where you could pick up the rudimentary aspects of the language. If you picked up even a little Japanese while you were there, you should have absolutely no problem picking up Korean.

The thing about learning Korean is that you get the Korean girl OUT of her comfort zone and get her interested in you.
The thing about the Korean girls that do speak fluent English is that they are more like bus routes, in which almost everyone had ridden on it at least once or in a steady rotation.
The more you or anyone speaks Korean, your dating pool gets wider and more diverse. You'd be surprise where you could pick up Korean women if you could talk casually with them.

By FAR the easiest way to get girls in Korea is to go to one of several "language exchange" websites, make a profile, and then find a girl who is interested in learning English and teaching you Korean.

The first time you meet will be at a coffee shop, you will chat and pretend to be actually exchanging languages as you check each other out. Make an effort to use some basic Korean phrases and ask her questions about Korean. If she likes you, the next time will probably be dinner, maybe a movie. If she wants to have a drink with you, that means she feels comfortable around you. If the second or third meeting goes well, after that she's your girlfriend if you want her.

The process doesn't have to be expensive, it's literally just coffee, a movie, a dinner or two, and a few beers or bottles of soju. She may even offer to pay for the movie tickets or the coffee.

And even if you are genuinely interested in learning Korean and try to have an honest language exchange with a Korean girl, if you are at least slightly attractive, it is likely to turn into a romantic relationship eventually whether you like it or not. If you express openly that you are not interested in that, she will just stop meeting you. "Language exchange" is really just code for "meeting foreigners to date." It's actually not such a bad system--better and safer for them than meeting us drunk in nightclubs, at least.

Also, if you try to meet Korean guys on the internet for language exchange, I guarantee they will set off your gaydar.

I know a few guys who are level 5ish and speak pretty good Korean All they want to do is meet a Korean girl and speak Korean. THey have been trying for over a year now and have been on countless dates. They are pretty good looking guys but can only seem to attract the Korean women that want English.

MC I see where you are coming from but just speaking some snappy Korean isn't the only thing that is going to increase you chances. If you want a girl that isn't interested in your linguistic ability as a native english speaker you still need connections )Korean guys to hook you up etc etc) That ain't easy as it is hard to befriend Koreans that do not want to speak English. I'm speaking from personal experience here.

That is fine if you are interested in Korean women that want English practice. WOuld these same women be interested in you if you were French or Polish or Russian with some Korean ability but zot in English? It is hard to say. For dating, I have a hard time trusting Korean women that will not speak Korean to me even if I insist.

I do realize as well that most guys do not care about the above as they are just looking to hook up are have some casual flings. If you are looking for something more however....meh.

Yeah maybe but why not at least try? There's a few bad apples in every bunch (or only a few good ones) so not getting out there and trying is only killing your chances of finding someone actually dateable.

Or casual flings with women you could only win over through charm and linguistic precision!

Thanks for the tips. I learned a little Japanese in Japan, because I actually want to learn that language and studied. As fas as Korean, I don't really see me having use for it in the future. I KNOW that sounds really bad and perhaps a little selfish, but its the truth. Thats why I'm saying that I started out this thread talking about K-girls because obviously they will be in abundance, but I am not specifically targeting k-girls. Any nationality of women that I can have a mutually good time with will be just as great. Also, you mention military guy competition, but if Korea is anything like Japan, then the foreign women will mostly be ignored.

Except they aren't, as pointed out by someone who actually lives here...
