Is the tap water safe in Seoul to drink? I have been drinking it all day because I ran out of bottled water and I cannot pick up more bottled water at the moment.
I want to make sure that I am not doing anymore damage to myself by drinking it.
I have heard some say it is okay to drink but bottled water is better. |

I don't think it's the tap water itself that is a problem in Seoul, per se, but the pipes that the water runs through. I don't think it could be that bad, because I'm sure if there were a real epidemic that Koreans would be freaking out. It's just the low sperm counts and terminal disorders 20 years down the road that you may have to deal with. |

I was told buy a doctor that the water's okay in Korea, but as the other poster mentioned it's the pipes that can be the problems. His recommendation was that if the building is ten years old or less, than it's fine but for older buildings he'd go with a purifier or bottled water.
So that was his recommendation, for what it's worth...
But for a short period of time I think you'll be fine regardless of the age of the building. |

My understanding about tap water in Korea is that the only potential problem is high levels of heavy metals (maybe mercury, lead, etc., not sure what specifically). A big part of this is dependent on the age and maintenance of the water pipes in your building.
Drinking tap water every once in a while will not hurt you! Just don't drink it ALL the time...heavy metals build up and can eventually affect your health. But for a few days every once in a while, you'll be fine. Obviously don't drink it if it's like brown or tastes raunchy! |

I have been drinking between 3 and 6 liters a day everyday from the past 3 years. I'm fine (other than glowing at night) |

The current mayor of Seoul proudly proclaims that he drinks from the tap, if that's any indication. |
