Hey everyone,
I'm going to be returning to Korea next month after a year and a half away, and I'm wondering about a couple of things. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
1. Will I get a new ARC number, or can I reactivate my old one? My bank accounts (which are still open) all use my old ARC as ID, so it would be pretty helpful if my number stayed the same. I had to give up the ARC when I left Korea, but I do have a photocopy of it.
2. Will my previous three years of pensions contributions be recognised, or will I have to start from scratch? (I'm from the UK, so I wasn't able to claim anything back when I left Korea last time).
3. On a related point, has there been any movement on reciprocal arrangements for UK pensions? What's the status now?
4. Will I be able to simply reactivate my old credit card, or will I have to go through the whole application process again?
Thanks! |

1) yes, they will probably use the same ARC number (assuming you are in the same jurisdiction).
2) Yes, your contributions remain and will still be there.
3) Nothing has changed in regard to the US/Korea and pensions.
4) You will need to get a new credit card (application from scratch).

Thanks for the info, ttompatz. It'll certainly be useful if I can get the same ARC number as before. |

OP, you're from UK? As far as I can determine, your pension contributions will continue to go down the toilet.
But I've heard vague suggestions that once you hit retirement age in UK you can maybe apply for transfer of funds from Korea into their program.
Anyone know for sure one way or the other? |

I've also heard about this, but can't find any official information about it. As you say, payment in Korea is supposedly considered to count towards your pension in the UK. Has anyone actually managed to achieve this? |
