Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but where/when is the next GEPIK orientation? I know that it's soon and that I'm supposed to go, but my co-teacher seems clueless about the details (or is waiting until the last minute per Korean culture). I'm just trying to plan ahead, thanks!

I thought I had a link for you, turns out it was a year old...sorry. She likely just doesn't know yet. They usually send out a memo about a month or less in advance. The next one is either late Sept or October. They also generally have more new teachers than spaces so they always make some people wait till the next round to go. Just be patient and relax and wait, because the info will come to your co-teacher on Korea time.

I was told elementary is the week of Sep. 27-Oct.1 (Split into 3-day sections. Mon-Wed for one group, Wed-Fri for the other group - GEPIK chooses which group based on what part of Gyeonggi-do you're teaching in.)

Middle/High should be either the week before or the week after.

didn't stop people last year though, from sneaking some drinks.... the only victim of that weekend was the toilet in one of the bathrooms.... and I always thought Aussies could hold their likker.... Crying or Very sad

It depends on where it's held but at the training facility in Anseong, if you have the money they have the beer at a convenience store on site near the cafeteria.

there was booze for the KOREANS staying at the center for other reasons, just no Devils... not that it stopped anyone from sneaking off the site to get drinks...

After i had some liquid courage, I went to a group of ladies from another conference and asked them, eotteohgehaneun geobnikka? Wink

No...I was at GEPIK orientation last fall and foreigners could buy beer.

One guy made money by buying beer before the convenience store closed and selling it later.

By the way, not all foreigners are "white-faced" faced devils.

Look, it is important to meet other teachers. It certainly helps improve your social situation and those friends can be lifesavers. They can be just drinking buddies, but you can also meet some good people who can be very good friends. This is especially important for those who teach in rural areas and have a hard time meeting other foreigners.

But the rest of the programs are useless. You'll learn more by listening to the experienced teachers who are there. Just know that before you go and save yourself some aggravation.
