|
|
I'm heading back to Korea after a 6 months time lapse since the end of my last stay. Aside from the year of experience and letters of recommendation from my school, I got a TEFL during the 6 month break. Hopefully, my experience and new certification pays off.
This thread has probably been done, but I can't find precise answers to all of my questions. They're mostly simple ones:
1. The FBI website says it will take up to 12 weeks. Has anybody gotten it in less time?
2. The recruiter I use says that I can get the job/visa set up without a FBI check (I need a state check) but to get an ARC, I need the FBI check. Can you confirm this?
3. Is there any seal or apostille needed for the FBI check? Or is it good to go once I get it back?
4. Should I make multiple copies of anything like fingerprint cards or anything like that?
5. What is the cost of getting fingerprints done (if any) and what payment methods are accepted? I assume the state police won't accept credit/debit cards.
6. Is it possible for my documents to expire before I get my FBI check back? Should I wait a week after sending out the FBI check to get the rest of the paperwork done?
Unrelated question:
Should I use multiple recruiters if I am going for hagwons? Most recruiters say not to use other recruiters at the same time, but I think that's done because they don't want to invest time in you and find out that you got a job somewhere else. Am I right?
Thanks for answering my questions (if they do get answered). |

It's only been posted about 200x.
Helpful hint: search function |

No reason to be obnoxious.
But as you hinted, I did run a search after reading your reply and the search function does not work. It might work later, but I'd feel more comfortable having an experienced person here answering my simple questions. |

Yes, completely redundant, I agree + you can expect about 1000 more of these types of postings over the next few months.. |

It's unfortunate that a forum intended to provide help and information to one another has become one that contains many member who are unwilling to help and at times even insult people for God forbid asking a question that may have been asked before.
As I mentioned, I did attempt to use the search feature but it did not work. It's not as though I have never been here. This new information about the paperwork process surprised me. I was expecting a much smoother trip back since I had already been there earlier.
So, I may have asked questions that have been asked in the past. Who hasn't? We were all novices or less experienced once in our lives and could have used help from others. I provide replies and answer other questions, but the minute I ask some I am shot down. |

OK, I'll give it a crack....

|
Yes, someone on here said they got it a few weeks sooner by writing a letter of expediency.

You can use the state check as a proper means of obtaining the visa UNTIL Jan 1, 2011. After that you MUST submit the FBI check. You don't need to submit an additional CBC to obtain the ARC once in Korea.

Yes, you will need to get the apostille either from the US Dept. of state, or a notarized copy apostilled by your home-state's Sec. of State.

4. Should I make multiple copies of anything like fingerprint cards or anything like that? |
Yes, it is best to submit multiple copies of the fingerprint cards, as the FBI can reject any copy the deem unfit.

Contact your local law enforcement bureau.

The Criminal Record Check is good for six months from the time of receipt, or whatever date is stamped on the document, I guess.
And this is all second-hand info I've obtained from reading Dave's over the last few weeks and researching the FBI's website, I'm not even in Korea yet, Jeez...

Thanks for your help Satchel. Much appreciated.
Guess it's common for recruiters to provide some misleading information to suit themselves. |
