So I'm kinda just staying in Korea to visit family and friends, and being Canadian, I can be here for 6 months.
I was reading though that I needed to apply for an Alien card if I'm here for longer than 90 days. But I was also reading that I needed to bring at least my passport w/ a Visa on there.
So... am I not allowed to get an Alien card? Or should I just show up tomorrow at the office and be fine?
Thanks for any responses ^^ |

People on tourist waivers don't require a arc, even if you're here longer than 90 days. |

They probably just want you to go into immigration and tell them what your plans are and where you will be staying.
Its incase of an emergency they know where you are, or so you don't start working illegally. They wont give you a card, but it may just be of use to you.
The Embassys want the same thing from thier citizens, though if you make friends with the Embassy staff, drop in every now and then for a chat, take them out for a meal etc, You can find yourself being invited to some nice parties. |

oh and why are you even going to the immigration office at all? You checked in at the airport. That's it. The next time you see immigration is when you leave. You've got zero reason to go to immigration on a tourist waiver unless they made some massive error on your passport when you came in, or you want to process a change of status. |

The alien card is for foreign RESIDENTS. You are just visiting and therefore you don't need one. Even if you tried, you wouldn't be able to get one. You got a stamp in your passport when you got here. You don't need anything else. |

Canadians have special rules for their stay (reciprocal treatment between Canada and Korea).
You get a 6 month stamp (B2) on arrival (unlike the 90 day B1 that other visa free entries get) as long as you meet the requirements for visa free entry (onward passage and funds for your stay).
You are NOT required to obtain an ARC nor can you get one.
You cannot join the NHIC medical plan and your banking is restricted for the first 3 months of your stay (you can open an account in a bank but you are restricted to over-the-counter transactions).
Your stamp cannot be extended; you MUST pass outward through customs before the last date indicated on your stamp.
You CAN leave and re-enter Korea and the clock on your 6 months starts again on re-entry with a new stamp.
