Got the memo today. Apparently there is yet another GEPIK orientation/
training conference that I need to attend. Even though I have been here
for 4 years, even though 2 of them were spent for GEPIK. I went to the
one last year. It was basically a bunch of 23 year olds complaining about
their co-teacher and seminar classes about Korean culture. I need neither.
Is anyone else having to do this? Is there any way out of it. Short of me signing the form one time, sneaking out and taking a taxi to the bus station? |

That sucks dude. Have fun listening to people ask if their school will refund their bus fare. |

They're obliging all GEPIK teachers to do this once a year now. They also lock the gates, so you're effectively a prisoner for 3 days. Joy! |

When is it, do you know? I know they mentioned to me that there was another one (surprisingly like 2 months ago but no dates) but they didn't know at that time when it was. |

I just received a job through EPIK, but it does not start until Sept 17th. Does this mean no orientation? Or is there another at a later date? Any veterans know? |

Believe it or not, there are far worse things than being paid to sit and effectively do nothing. |

You have no idea how bad one of these can be. Just imagine a group therapy session run by Charles Manson and you're just beginning to get the idea. Then imagine bad food, low budget dorms, and also add the fact that they yell at everyone for drinking but leave you there with nothing else to do but drink for days. |

It's kind of ok to be away from work for 3 days, but... yeah. The above.
You are also given a list of rules, one of which is to not engage in "loose conduct". |

Maybe you can be there for another GEPIK chanting contest. GEPIK actually gives prizes for that at these camps. Get your team together and practice. |

I talk to my school yesterday and they called the head quarters and confirmed that all renewed teachers must attend again! This is not my idea of a vacation or exciting time, but things could be much worse. Those of us that are teaching public school could be doing a split shift at a hagwon or working those 10 hour days! We all know that the food is not the best and the rooms are not much better than a goshwin, but take it is stride and pick up new contacts and friends that you can meet later on after the training course. |

There was a camp in June for people who were staying for another year. Now I was told by one of the supervisors that it was optional. But my school said that it was compulsory and that if I didn't attend that one, then I would have to attend another one in September/October. I think that means that I have to attend that one! Joy O joy!
We have sick days, you know so maybe... |

The camp itself i didnt really mind, but what i HATED was that it covered my weekend. It started thursday (orientation) and finished monday morning (so really it was a friday saturday and sunday camp). Throw in that its 12 hours a day (aside the sunday which was a meager 10 hours) and 100% compulsory and they give you a 2am lockdown and well, it kinda sucks.
It did howver have one of the cutest girls ive seen in korea still to this day, taking photos of us all acting like eejits so that kinda made the time fly right by |
