they told me in my interview that 4% fail the training.
That's like 1 out of 25 applicants |
I trained in a group of 53 and 52 of us passed. |

You got an interview with CDI? You are a special person then. They chose you because you are different from the rest. Take the job by all means if you're offered! |

| They fail something like a third of the people who they bring over to do their ridiculous training program, then their reputation as "the best" prevents you from being hired if another hagwon director finds out you failed. My buddy was on probation with them for like five months after he was hired because he failed the training, even though the school he was hired by ended up needing him and kept saying he was doing a fine job. I wouldn't sign with them. |
They fail 15%
Its really not bad. My friend works for the one in Cheonan and really likes it. Yea, he only gets 1 week vacation (unpaid) and he has to make up most holidays on saturday, but he gets paid hourly and makes 3 mil+ a month.
I work for CDI April. Not paid as much (2.2), but i get 2 weeks vacation and all the major holidays. Job isn't stressful. On top of that, you don't really have to worry about not getting your pay at the end (our boss fled the country and the cdi office stepped up and paid our month's salary). Both jobs dont have you teaching more then 6 hrs a day.
Not sure why there's so much hate towards CDI. Granted, its not for everyone (many people prefer to create their own lessons and have some wiggle room), but it certainly isnt a bad option, especially after reading some of the horror stories at other schools. |

Koreans like to have a "good" social environment and if lying tends to create that, they sure will lie. Thus it is a good idea to ask another English teacher about them...get references. There are some honest schools...for awhile honest, anyway.
Contracts are just approximations that they can change at whim and the courts will always believe Koreans against any foreigner. One place I worked, they never even gave us a contract, saying the "president of the University" had to sign it and wasn't around now...it stretched into two semesters and the summer camp was a 100hour workweek (he told us it was our job to ask the hours they carefully did not mention). Ever tried a 100 hour workweek switching between 42 classes? |

The above is xenophobic nonsense. The labor board and courts in the past have ruled against Koreans who have cheated English teachers. |

According to the US State Dept, kbridger is accurate.
Your assessment is only a recent development. Only after this country started to get bad press have the rules started to change. |

Except that kbridger said "the courts will ALWAYS believe Koreans against any foreigner."
(capitals are mine).
Except there are foreigners here (YF is one and I am another) who have won court cases against Koreans (dishonest hakwon bosses). Mine was in 2004 so not that recent.
So no he's not.
And could you show me where the US. State Dept states that the Korean courts will always side with the Korean against the foreigner? |

Hey
I have just sent off my visa documents including diploma to CDI and after reading all these threads about CDI, I am now starting to regret it. It doesn't sound like a good school to work for at all. They have given me a position in CD April in Changwon city. Does anyone know what it's like to work in this location? |

I don't know about your specific school or location, but I know a couple of people who have worked for CDI April and they have said it is OK. |

Chungdahm Learning is pretty varied. Depending on the location you get it sent you, it can be strict as all hell or very loose with the rules. Without knowing where you are going, it is difficult to tell you as most of the CDL locations are franchises not ran by the headquarters.
And if they failed a 3rd of the group...then wow. The training just makes sure you remember basic middle-high school English, if you can't do that then you shouldn't be teaching. |
Osan --I'm being sent there, good, bad or no one knows? |

Work hard, try your best and prep thoroughly and you will do great.
Those who tend to do poorly at Chungdahm have questionable work attitudes in my experience. |
