As long as Orser doesn't make any more commercials playing a fat James Bond (I thought he looked like Gomer Pyle) or dancing, I'm fine with it.
As good as Yuna is, Orser was the right coach for her. She was ready to quit when he started coaching her and he taught her to enjoy skating instead of roboting it. Omma counts every mistake Yuna makes and ignores the rest of her family and that doesn't make her a coach. |

AJUMMA! The control of mothers is behind so much. |
You may be right. It looks like Orser didn't quit. He was let go. I pulled this off a Canadian news site.
Quote: |
In a statement released Tuesday, Orser's management agency, IMG, said Kim's mother told Orser on Aug. 2 that "he would no longer be retained" as coach.
According to IMG, "no reason was given for the sudden and unexpected decision."
Kim's mother may have been heavily involved in the decision, as she has taken over as her daughter's agent and seems to be "running the store."
|
A sudden and unexpectedly firing without giving a reason. The Ajumma canned Orser like he was teaching her kid a private. |
Add this quote "We were just waiting to get our orders from the mother because thats what we always did" and it IS just like teaching in Korea. Not to mention the older male getting replaced by a younger blond female. |

My bet is that he was let go because Koreans started becoming more aware of his homosexuality and Momma Kim didn't want to hurt her daughter's brand. |

Don't be such a retard.. Brian needed Yuna (just as much as Yuna needed Brian) to win that gold. LOL @ the comment implying Brian Orser was the reason why Yuna won gold at the Vancouver games.
If you dislike Korea so much, you should do all of us (and Korea) a favor and gtfo (of Korea). Let's hope Korea's not the only place where you can find a job. |

Whhaaaaaaaaaaaat!? It's because of those that I want him to still be Yuna's coach! D=
They were supposed to have an interview with him on CTV this morning, but I had to catch the bus to go to work before I can see it. All I do know is that it does have to do with the mother. Which I should remind people, isn't just a Korean phenomenon. Anyone who watches the celebs in Hollywood, or those child beauty pageants know what I'm talking about. And the soccer moms.
Didn't some kid from the States recently beat Yuna in the last competition right after the Olympics? I'm sure that put on a lot of stress from both mommy and the coach. Not that I'm a super famous, some awesome athlete, but I know that when you're at that caliber, it can get very overwhelming.
*EDIT: That... and it's also probably 'business as usual' in the athletic world. |

Nah, she probably preferred it that way because she didn't have to worry about her daughter hooking up with the coach (if given the chance, I know I would!) |

Any gay guy would? Or don't you realize Orser is gay? Or any guy would, even a gay guy? *shrug* |

I don't know if peoples in Korea can watch this link, but here is the invterview with Brian Orser with Canada AM. Very calm, very classy, and no finger pointing. Just a lot of confusion.
The rumour about him working with the Japanese skaters is apparently very false.

I think it's kind of ironic, Kim Yuna's mother probably pushed her hard throughout her youth to skate, skate, skate. Probably an ungodly amount, kind of like the Korean women golfers and their fathers, or Tiger Woods and his dad.
If it weren't for her constant dictatorial style parenting no way Kim Yuna would have even come close to being an Olympic champion. A large part has to do with Asian culture, and it does happen a lot in the West too, like Tiger's father. But her mother needs to know that Yuna probably doesn't want to skate competitively anymore. She's won everything that she can win. In that CTV interview I think Orser kind of hints at it, and he knows Yuna is under total control of her mother.
Probably when Yuna gets a few years older she will eventually part ways with her mother. Most likely when she gets married, if Yuna were smart she has some smart guy lined up from school to hook up with. Hopefully a large chunk of her earnings will be in tact when she pries it out of her mother's hands. And if she doesn't quell the control of her mother she could be one of the next celebrity suicides. |

Damn shame. I hope he trains 2 Japanese skaters to win the gold and silver, a Canadian pulling Bronze and Yuna can pull in 4th.
Watch her endorsements dry up, and the fortune she made Gary Coleman style. She'll be forgotten (household taboo) a year after her big disappointment. |

Usually you fire a coach when you lose some major matches.
Maybe firing Orser after a major win is a secret Korean success strategy. |
