OK. Problems abound - Jailbreak
Got the 2g 4.0 MC model ipod touch. I have spent 2 days searching on the internet, youtube tutorials etc trying to learn how to jailbreak this device - I am new to all this.
Tried using spirit but wont allow me to start the process: message reads - "Device Ipod touch 2G (4.0)is not supported"
Downloaded redsn0w 0.9.5b5-1 & iPod2,1_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw
- click on redsn0w.exec and click the brouse button; click the ipsw file, then I click 'Yes' in the pop-up window indicating MC then a new window pops up with message - "This beta version of redsn0w is not meant for your device"
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong or where I need to go and what steps I need to do?
Or does anyone know a place in Seoul that Jailbreaks
Cheers
P.s. I have tried earlier versions and later versions of redsn0w but still no dice. |

well spirit hasnt come out with a jailbreak for this model yet but have started doing searches again and came across this site www.jailbreakme.com
now according to all the searches i have done this should work for the mc model. it is done actually using the ipod itself not run through the computer. you type the above address into your ipod when you are connected to wifi and tells you to slide to jailbreak.
I do so and the screen goes the purplely color that is normal with all jailbreaking devices. and then it just takes me back to the main screen. when i try the website again i get this message: Oops... it looks like the installer crashed last time you tried to jailbreak it might work if you try again
Keep on trying but same thing.
Have also tried downgrading the operating system but when it comes to restoring the device using the new OS (eg. 3.1.1) it says its not compatible. Have tried different OS versions and get the same message
Any ideas? |

what version of ios4 you running now?
the jailbreakme website works for 4.0 and 4.0.1 but if you updated to 4.0.2 there is no jailbreak for it again. i am still running 3.1.3 so can't help with errors
also you can't downgrade your ipod unless it had previously been jailbreaked and backed up your shsh's on your computer or sauriks cydia server. |

| If you are at 4.0 or 4.0.1 it should work. Since I have not used jailbreakme and only spirit/older ones can't help much. Research or ask questions on ipod/iphone sites like modmyi/sinfuliphone/etc. They all have jailbreaking forums. I do know that you can't update your ipod to 4.0.1 since apple has released 4.0.2 and you haven't previously jailbroke your ipod. |
