I was there last year in october and possibly planning a trip again - Iphones are out in Korea now, but just wanted to know the latest if a phone brought in from the US will work with a local simcard, or Korean telecom companies still own the phones in their networks by having the IMEI's registered? |

No sim card to buy to put in it. Yes, the networks are still closed.

Technically yes, practically no, because you wouldn't want to pay some 260 dollars for government certification which is mandatory under the law, not to mention jumping through the hoops of all the paperwork in Korean.
If you do go through all that for whatever reason, then SKT or KT doesn't mind and will open a subscription account for you. (Both have already done so for quite a few people with overseas iPhone 3GS & 4) |
