i'm from manchester, in england - the rainiest city in a rainy country. unlike most fellow brits, i don't complain about weather that often. but what the &%*^ is going on this summer?
http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/47108.html : and thunderstorms all through next week too!
is it like this all over the country? and have any of you serious greybeard long-timers (this is only my fourth korean summer) seen anything like this before? |

I'm no graybeard but I'm with you on this ridiculous weather.
Is it gonna be rainy or sunny?! I DON'T KNOW! AUGH.
It was decent enough weather when I returned to my apartment a couple hours ago. After a short nap and the second half of a documentary, it sounds like a storm outside... and I have somewhere to be later.
Dagnabit! |

This is the worst summer since I've been in Korea, and we could have this heat for another month. Add in the humidity and storms and I say ENOUGH! |

2 years ago seemed worse. It basically rained for 4 or 5 weeks straight in june/july ( or seemed to) and rain as hard or harder than this. this summer has been pretty dry compared to that summer. At least from memory. |

It's not the actual rain but more the humidity. Does it feel worse this year? |

it's hotter this summer, it's cooled off this week compared to last week. I have a dehumidifier in home. |

I checked the weather report on my phone before going out, it showed cloudy skies. No need for an umbrella.
Come home at 6 and it's raining hard as hell |

Monday was Cheoseo (처서) on the calendar, in old farmers' reckoning the end of the heat. The lunar calendar "seasons" (all 24 of them) intrigue me.
Sokcho cooled down considerably that very evening after a month of steady heat & sunshiny days (the rains fell mostly at night). I really enjoyed this summer's weather. |

Where do you live? In Korea it's been hot and rainy all summer. |

Um, isnt that evident?
I stayed put this vacation & put together a comfort strategy. Bought a membership to a hotspring/spa/pool facility, also idled away many an hour at the beachside (later in the day when nice breezes came in from the sea), & probably spent too much on aircon at home (didnt stint, awaiting the bill).
Truly pleasant. |

Yes, well I think that says it all. All the posts I read before I came to Korea said you must have air con to survive. And yet, I've never had air con in 5 years here except for my 1st 6 months.
I agree, you must have air con to happily survive. My employer pays for my electricity and I've certainly had it on my mind to get a portable air con. Has to be portable since I don't know if I'll get a contract renewal or be moving on at contract's end. |

Actually the rain seemed to be less during the actual monsoon season and more after it. I had read somewhere earlier in the year that it was going to rain later then usual into August.
It was pretty bad tonight though. We were having dinner at a restaurant not far from home and stopped for awhile and waited. The wife finally gave up and started walking in it. Thankfully we were only less then 10 mins away. |

If I'm correct the heat doesn't usually continue unbroken for this long.
June and July yes, but were at the end of august already.
If it doesn't clear to blue skies and cooler temperatures within the next 2 weeks then I'm willing to call it bizarre. |

you/we might as well give up notions of "normal" or "regular" weather and certainly ideas of old lunar calendar season markers having any authenticity in modern times.
year-to-date, 2010 is one of the hottest years in centuries, globally. welcome to the new earth. hope you like it hot. |

My fourth summer in Korea... and definitely the worst in my memory.
Agree with other posters that it doesn't seem to have rained as much. But the humidity has been HELL this year. |
