The old guy used to be fairly generous and his wife the tightwad. But in the last year they've gotten really cheap, giving less than 2000won credit on books being traded in the last time I went.
The problem with them and WTB is that they take in everything offered on trade, whether they have five copies of it already or whether it's some book that no one's ever heard of and so no one will buy. They've already got tons of books they'll never sell and have lost money on.
But I'll take that store over WTB anyday. |

Yeah I like Grandpa Scrooge. Really. That Noksapyong has been there since the seventies (probably because he's a sharp trader) and you can talk to him about this and that he has all the time in the world. Feel the pinch though but whatever. |

Why the hate on for WTB?
Prices match amazon. Okay used book credit if you trade in. Decent store and layout (at least they're in alphabetical order unlike the scrooge's joint!) |

WTB said they'd give store credit, 30 to 50% of the list price, for used books. |
Unless they've changed their policy, they give cash for half of the credit value. |

I traded in a (basically new) book there a few weeks ago. I didn't feel like I got too much for it but the upside to WTB is their prices on new books.
I've considered a Kindle recently but with the shipping being just 2-3$ more than a lot of amazon listed prices it's hardly worth it. Obviously, their used book inventory is pretty small compared to all of the dealers selling via amazon. I think ordering a dozen used books a year at great prices in the states and having someone mail them to Korea is a good alternative.
Also, I think staff there are pretty helpful and friendly at WTB. |

The staff at WTB is very helpful.
The fact that they order nrw books for customers is a real boon, too. Ten day delivery is faster than amazon to Korea. In fact, a couple of weeks ago, I ordered some books on a Thursday and they arrived on the following Tuesday. You get a discount on books from amazon, but have to pay shipping. At WTB, you buy two or more and don't pay shipping. I still use amazon for somethings, but my first choice is WTB.
Plus the magazines are cheaper than anyplace else in Seoul.
The thing I don't like about WTB - the crowds of people shopping there. |

A lot of the Koreans that I know who read foreign books get them online. Apparently it's cheaper than getting them at a bookstore and many online bookstores offer free shipping. |

By the way, there used to be a second hand book store in Suwon as well. It was near the main gate to the fortress. The used books were in the basement of a regular bookstore. They had a lot of foreign (especially English) books. They were dirt cheap as well. Some of the books were second hand, some looked like old library books, some looked like they were from discarded water damaged cargo or something (i.e. they would have about a dozen of the same book but some of them looked a bit like they were exposed to water on one corner, but not really damaged). I don't know if it's still there because it's been a few years ago since I lived in Suwon. |

It remains the case.
Why some people seem to think books/records/CDs have any kind of non-negligible re-sale value is beyond me.

Yeah, that's the only thing I can't stand about WTB - it's so noisy - people having shouted conversations in a book store ... drives me nuts. It's better during the week, mind. |

No, I don't think so.
Are your used books actually WORTH something? |

Selling "collectibles" won't get you what you believe what they're worth. |
